Best of Luck to Rovers

There were so many SRFC threads I didn’t know which one to post in so I started my own.

Good luck to Rovers in their new home, good to see a properly run club getting a break.

Fair play to Rovers - they do seem a very well run club - the pride of South West Dublin and nobody can doubt the success of their re-location. I think they’ll definitely be competing at the highest level in Europe sooner rather than later.

Three Rock Rovers Hockey Club is the second oldest hockey club in Ireland being founded in the 1893/94 season by graduates of Dublin University Hockey Club which had been founded in the previous season.

In the earlier years Three Rock Rovers Hockey Club shared facilities with Maids of the Mountain Hockey Club on grounds located in Foxrock.

Subsequently, Three Rock Rovers Hockey Club moved to Londonbridge Road where for many years the club had to the two premier grass pitches in the country, and were used indeed for many internationals. In 1981, the club sold its grounds in Londonbridge Road purchasing a new site in Grange Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16 where the club is still located.

In 1981 the club laid its first water based super turf pitch on the new grounds, being the first of its kind in Ireland. A second water based astro turf pitch has just been installed making Three Rock Rovers the only club in Ireland with two water based astro turf pitches.

After a great number of years apart, in 1988 Maids of the Mountain Hockey Club relocated to Grange Road and once again shared facilities with Three Rock Rovers Hockey Club. The logical progression of this move to joint facilities was finalised on the 25th May 1999 when the two clubs merged to become one club, the current Three Rock Rovers Hockey Club.

Three Rock Qualify for EHL!!

Three Rock Rovers broke Pembroke Wanderers two year hold on the All-Ireland Club Championships with a ferocious Maarten Sier drag-flick with just 47 seconds of golden goal extra-time remaining.

Along with the title of All Ireland Club Champions the win brought with it the coveted berth in next seasons Euro Hockey League.

It was a fantastic way to end an exceptional season for the team in which they also captured the Neville Cup and the Leinster League titles.

Full details of the European trip will be available in time but why not learn a bit more about the competition?? Highlights from last years competition were shown on Sky Sports and can still be seen on the EHL website or on the EHL Channel on YouTube.

Please support your club as we step into the highest club level in Europe!!!
