That the English lad?
There’s a brother of one of the girls I work with who goes round doing something similar. Could be him
I wasn’t aware pub spy was still a thing, actually I couldn’t have been sure the Sunday world was either. Is Daniel still writing a column in it?
He’s English alright. I see he’s ended up in New York and South Africa with it recent weeks.
Different fella so.
Edit: this fella was with the Schooner Scorer rating points round london.
It feels like an ideal TFK pub tbh
Abbeyfeale and Ennistymon were the two places that I was always told had high pub to population ratios.
Knocknagree had a legendary ratio also
I think Dingle was the leader per capita once upon a time but not sure how it would have beaten Lahinch if that population was correct.
Ennistymon in County Clare with a population of 800 had 37 pubs in 1990 when I last counted them. One or two may have vanished but most remain - call it 35 which include some that double up with other trades such as grocer, ironmonger, florist and undertaker.
Liscannor had 5 pubs for 129 people, or 1 pub for every 26 people
Ennistymon had something like 52 licences in operation in the 50s apparently. Lahinch is also mentioned above in that pic. We’re martyrs for the sup up here
Often heard that Swinford was the drinking capital of Ireland.
Supposedly Caherciveen had a huge number of pubs. They claim a World record but it seems to be one of those self claimed things, not a real one.
Abbeyfeale once had 50 pubs, the whole street is lined with old pubs that are closed now.
This is good.
Town | Population | Number of pubs | Number of people per pub |
---|---|---|---|
Feakle, Clare | 113 | 7 | 16.1 |
Liscannor, Clare | 129 | 7 | 18.4 |
Lifford, Donegal | 1658 | 55 | 30.1 |
Waterville, Kerry | 232 | 7 | 33.1 |
Doonbeg, Clare | 272 | 8 | 34.0 |
Castlegregory, Kerry | 243 | 7 | 34.7 |
Cong, Mayo | 178 | 5 | 35.6 |
Knocktopher, Kilkenny | 144 | 4 | 36.0 |
Ballyvaughan, Clare | 258 | 7 | 36.9 |
Sneem, Kerry | 258 | 7 | 36.9 |
Where in Ireland has the most pubs per person? – Thomas Bibby
The key to make the list seems to be a small touristy town so I’d rule out a few of them. Knocktopher must be a proper drinking town.
Lifford an outlier too
Have you directions?
A mention of the Hatbour Bar in Bray there on Nationwide.
What a cracking bar that is. My mate lives un Bray and I’ve been there a few times.
There is a Harbour bar in Downings in co Donegal as well which is a piece of heaven
Was there in the height of Covid (late summer 2020 I’d say), there is a seafood place called Fisk beside it so had food + porter. Weather was absolutely cracking, so a socially distanced pint sitting out the front was the pure solid finesht. A piece of heaven indeed.
Always feel like I need a wash when I come out of it
The Local in Dungarvan. Superb pint and great food too.
Lads, recommendatiins for a couple of nice emergency pints in Ballina?
@endakenny ? @anyone else?
