All these different words for what is for all intents and purposes a swing. In any stick sport the implement is swung on an arc around a centre of gravity.
The essence of a flick is that it’s a wrist swing where at the centre of gravity, the head of the implement overtakes the handle.
You can see from the still above that Barrets hand, and hurley are fully extended, at no point did he attempt to flick at the ball. The direction the hurley is going would mean that the only place he could flick it is back towards Hogan any way.

It’s wearing very thin now though, that’s the problem. The apparent appeal really crowns it off. I genuinely would have thought KK Hurling folk would know when dignity, class and respect etc should kick in but I think there has been a complete systems malfunction up there on this one, and it seems to have gripped the whole county. It really is not a good look.
