Cop A: Heâs a gambling addict⌠owes millions⌠on the run⌠where could he be? HmmmâŚ
Cop B: [hangs up phone] We got a tip off that heâs in the bookies.
Cop A: Of course, itâs all so obvious now.
Youâd have to question the controls in place in An Post if this lad was able to extract so much money unnoticed?
Another day of shame for the auditing profession.
I donât know whatâs worse. The journalist trying to make a story out of this or Leon crying cos they lost âa few thousand euroâ
Bookies out of pocket after OâConnor scoring spree
today at 8:44 am
A leading Irish bookmaker took a big hit at the weekend after a group of Mayo fans put some inside knowledge to good use prior to their Connacht Final victory over Roscommon.
Mayoâs free-taking troubles had been the subject of some debate leading into their victory over Fergal OâDonnellâs side at Hyde Park, with seven players trying their hand in the narrow escape against London and another handful of players, including goalkeeper Robbie Hennelly, taking the frees in the Connacht semi-final win over Galway.
On Saturday night, however, word got out the night that the dead-ball responsibilities in the Connacht Final would be handed to 19-year old Cillian OâConnor in only his second championship start.
Armed with that information, a number of Mayo supporters slapped a few bob on OâConnor to score two points or more at odds of 8/13 with Irish bookmakers Boylesports.
OâConnor delivered the goods on the day, and in some style too, scoring eight points from frees in extremely difficult conditions to secure the man of the match award along with his first senior Connacht medal.
A number of Mayo supporters had extra reasons to cheer their victory and OâConnorâs sterling performance and a spokesman for Boylesports confirmed that his scoring exploits proved costly for the bookies.
âWe took a bet of âŹ650 at 8/13 and clipped that price to 4/7 when we took another bet of âŹ700 on that and cut it again to 1/2. We had several other smaller bets too, so we were caught to the tune of a few thousand euro,â Boylesports spokesperson Leon Blanche told the Irish Independent.

ONE of the countryâs top bookmakers was left counting the cost after a number wily Mayo fans made a packet on last Sundayâs Connacht final.
Word reached some supporters that Ballintubber youngster Cillian OâConnor would be handed the free-taking duties against Roscommon and they snapped up the 8/13 on offer from Boylesports on the 19-year-old scoring two points or more.
âWe took a bet of âŹ650 at 8/13 and clipped that price to 4/7 when we took another bet of âŹ700 on that and cut it again to 1/2. We had several other smaller bets too, so we were caught to the tune of a few thousand euro,â said firm spokesperson Leon Blanche.
Until OâConnorâs tour de force, Mayoâs free-taking had been a major source of concern for manager James Horan.
Seven different players had attempts from placed balls in their scare against London and in only his second championship start, OâConnor seemed an unlikely solution to the bookmakers.
However, OâConnor delivered a man-of-the-match performance for Mayo, scoring 0-8 all from frees as he held his nerve in the wet and windy conditions at Hyde Park.

That is pathetic
Them cunts would even lay a GAA bet to loos two monkeys.
Blanche is a cunt of the highest order.
At least when pp pretend theyâve taken a hit itâs for big money. That is just sad
Is this a new thing with betfair that you have to verify your age before you can start betting on your account? Got an email off who i think is betfair asking me about this, they want something like a photocopy of an id or for me to make a visa payment to prove my age. I set up another account with them about two years ago and there was nothing like thisâŚ
Has always been the way, or at least was when I set up an account with them nearly 4 years ago. which would lead me to believe that you never had a betfair account in the first place
Oh ya, the one you lost your bollix on after LAYING Kilkenny against Waterford in the AI final.
Plus it has always been that way, maybe you got your mother to set up the account for you the last time?
Excuse me but i did nothing of the sort. This new account iâve set up is in a different name, i still have the other one. Iâm expanding my operations and need two accounts, so that i can do twice as much betting.
It wouldnât be the first time youâve had dual accounts
What are you waffling on about, how would two accounts allow you to do twice as much betting there is no real limit as to what you can back and lay on betfair apart from the liquidity in the market
When you are winning as much as i am there are limits.
No there isnât. Sure why would they put a limit on you? the more you bet/win the more commission betfair gets hence the more money they make. I think it is fairly obvious that you have never had a betfair account in your life
Dunph being badly exposed as a spoofer here.
I had betfair accounts before you had hair on your balls.
well then you would had to verify your account with photo ID, although you maintain this wasnât the case two years ago
a simple screenshot of your Profit and Loss account will put me back in my box or the date you joined, but sure you need an account for that
I wasnât asked for any id two years ago but in hindsight maybe it is because i put money in with a credit card, which is one of the valid ways of confirming your age.
Unfortunately i donât know the ins and outs of posting screen shots and besides iâd hate to embarress the good people of this forum when they see my profit figuresâŚ
