I was at a funeral in Dungiven yesterday. At the afters, I was introduced to Seamus McDonagh. He was born in Birmingham, raised in Enfield Co Meath.
Only after chatting to him for a while, he told me he had fought Evander Holyfield in 1990. Lost in round 4. Holyfield was signed to fight Tyson in that June, but Buster Douglas scuppered that, so the fight with McDonagh was arranged.
He was a really nice fella. He said Holyfield was so strong, never experienced anything like it.
