Wait for number 2 boys.

A democratic decision driven by lies?

I’ll emigrate if we join up with those cunts.

A democratic majority shouldnt be blackguarded, mate - regardless.

Not necessarily though.

The UK is 4 countries and 2 of them voted remain.

Ye can shove yer fuckin’ Brexit up yer eehhrse

That’s a different matter, I’m talking about politicans fucking up a majority decision by an electorate.

Its happened here in the past as well - Lisbon treaty referendum 1 and 2 comes to mind.

Its a bad route to go down.

The Irish government secured binding guarantees on Lisbon 2 and Nice 2 as far as I remember

For full disclosure I voted Yes on Lisbon 1 and No on Lisbon 2

Wouldn’t be like me to be on the losing side would it

One referendum should be enough for 10 years, minimum.
Lisbon 2 was undemocratic.

It’s taking the piss on democracy otherwise.

Not really

Ireland’s constitution is fundamentally different to the UK’s in that ours is written and theirs is an unwritten system decided by common law

Ireland holds referendums on matters that affect the constitution, while our constitution does make provision for non-constitutional referendums in exceptional circumstances, we’ve never had one

Ireland’s referendums are always between two options that are always defined, and we are highly experienced at holding them

We have a Referendum Commision to ensure the public is informed aand broadcasting regulations to ensure each side gets a fair, 50% hearing

The UK does not hold constitutional referendums, they are only advisory because their unwritten constitution gives soveerignty to the parliament

The 2016 referendum was a shit show in terms of disinformation, they were clueless in terms of how to actually hold the thing

One of the only things I admire Thatcher for is her opposition to holding such referendums because she warned that some day there could be a referendum between a defined option and a completely undefined one

Brexit was that referendum

If, after three and bit years of this shitshow, people can’t see what the problem was, I give up

There was never a majority for any defined Brexit

Brexit was only popular as an abstract

It was like the Limerick public voting for a new manager instead of John Kiely and the best the proponents of a new manager could come up with was Humphrey Kelleher

So it looks as though Boris is just going to try to bulldoze it through again on Monday, he has 16 votes to make up beween now and then. The thing is by not requesting an extension he could end up in court on Monday but maybe thats what Boris wants. I expect he will lobby Brussels to make some noise between now and Monday about not granting an extension, to scare some into voting with him, still unlikely to be enough however. An extension is inevitable

I’ll need some time to read what people on Boards.ie have been saying before making any more comment

OK I’ve read what people on Boards.ie have been saying and I’ll disregard all that and go back to my comment some weeks ago about Johnson wanting to be a “Brexit martyr”

Every second that passes between now and whenever the vote is eventually held is bad for him

He’s going to fuck this up

And it will be hilarieux

there will possibly be another referendum on it now
