BREXIT thread

Britain have them right where they want them.

Exactly as @Tassotti predicted in fairness to him

I think May will go to parliament again with her deal before April 12th, ramp up the pressure to hitherto unseen levels, and even then, she’ll probably lose again.

She’ll ignore anything that comes of the indicative votes.

No deal is far from off the table, it could happen through sheer bumbling incompetence, but a long extension of at least a year on the proviso there’s a General Election by June is likeliest in my view, probably with Johnson as Tory leader after a hastily arranged leadership election.

Has to be an election and if the tories run on the negotiated deal a Brexiteer ahould lead them.

The requirement for European Elections has thrown a spanner in the works as well. If the EU require the UK to hold these there could be revolt.

That’s why April 12th is the d day as it’s the last day for confirmation of participation in the May elections.

The brits are revolting

I think it’ll happen. Participation in the EP elections really is a very, very trifling matter compared to the future of Britain.

Tories are refusing to speak to Channel 4 News. Guru-Murthy is one the very, very few interviewers in UK broadcast media, perhaps the only one, who does his job properly. He has a thinly veiled tone of disdain for bumbling bullshitters like Grayling which is entirely appropriate.

If the HoC can reach consensus on some sort of preferred Brexit - probably something softer as the votes during the week indicated, then there may be a way through for May’s deal.

It would be like today - vote for the Withdrawal Agreement with a revised Political Statement indicating the HoC preferred route. Then General Election. In that scenario, Labour would likely come on board you’d imagine.

They won’t revolt, they will do as they are told, they are being corralled into a tighter and tighter spot by the EU.

May’s statement that she’ll quit if the withdrawal agreement is approved makes it less likely that more Labour MPs will switch, because Boris Johnson or some other Grand Wizard would be coming down the tracks in short order.

I genuinely think May will ignore the indicative votes - and even then I’m not sure anything positive will come through those votes.

Clarke’s amendment on the Customs Union lost 272 to 264, and maybe that will get through on Monday, but that vote was on a lower turnout than what I’d expect at the next session.

She could pull some last ditch stunt that if MV4 is passed, a General Election will be called, but I think that will fail because Labour are confident enough one is coming soon anyway.

Just like the Micks with the Lisbon treaty.

I saw an interview with Steve Baker of the research group. He voted against.

Constant references to ‘no surrender’. May has to go back to the EU and get an alternative to the backstop he says.

Clown.

Newton Emerson says may has lost a reverse deal of no confidence

A reverse ballhop of a deal.

Just on a human being level imagine Theresa May waking up & going to sleep with that much stress everyday. Plus she has type 1 diabetes & has to take insulin 5 times a day. Fuck me…

I’d have it well packed in & on the high stool looking at someone else try fix the impossible. That first pint & weight off your shoulders would be magical. I could deal with the quitter jibes.
