Just watching Boris’s speech to commons there. I thought it was quite impressive. Twilight zone stuff but good on it’s own terms.
The whole last 5 minutes were just daring the opposition to have an election. Boris’s whole point is that he has a minority government and if they don’t like him they can have a general election any time they want, which is fair enough I suppose.
I don’t see how Labour can carry on without calling an election. I don’t think Labour can block any deal indefinitely but refuse to have a general election. They’ll be punished for it. Once they force the Brexit delay at Halloween they’ll just have to call one.
Of course, because that means “do or die” on 31 October won’t happen and Boris will be fucked. Let not anyone think that the big parties are thinking of anything other than their electoral chances in this whole mess.
That’s a strange response to my expert analysis. I’m a die-hard leftie and remainer.
There will be huge pressure put on Labour to have a general election between now and Halloween. The right-wing papers will get on board and portray Corbyn as the enemy of the people, preventing democracy from happening. It will be hard for them to resist, especially if Johnson keeps fucking everything up this badly.
Labour’s position will look dodgy between then and now but will be completely unsustainable after the Halloween extension.
I expect Johnson to attempt to orchestrate a coup from within his own party - find a Tory backbencher to call for a no confidence vote in mid-October. I don’t think Johnson wants to go into a general election offering no-deal Brexit or nothing, which is how it will look after October.
A big gamble asking a government member to call a no confidence motion on his/her own government. The opposition would just not bother voting and however bad the conservatives are looking now, voting no confidence in themselves would be absolute suicide.
A notable company had an order with them waiting to be fulfilled but hadn’t picked up their items which were awaiting delivery. They had to scramble anyone with a bus driving license up to get them before the auditors arrived in the last couple of days.
It’s pretty easy to understand mate but you don’t seem to get it
Labour and the rest of opposition won’t allow a general election until the bill preventing no deal is actually enacted and the extension has been secured
That’s eminently sensisble because if an election was to be called now, there would be no possibility of forming an alternative government if Johnson decides to try and break the law and refuses to ask for an extension
But sure buy away into the Daily Mail narrative by all means if you want
