BREXIT thread

Strong and stable

It is an interesting contrast between British and Irish politics. Both main parties over there on the island typically have a rump outside the front bench pulling in a very different direction to the leadership.

A by-product of safe seats under first-past-the-post and a very large number of backbenchers with time on their hands.

On the 29th March, The United Kingdom will leave the European Union

But will continue to be bound by all it’s rules and will pay lots of money to it.

The DUP will vote no deal. May is gone now. And I wouldn’t blame her. Who wants to negotiate this mess

This will pass by a snot hair but the British people will never forget this betrayal

The DUP are on every show they can saying the same thing “We haven’t seen the deal but based upon rumours we’ll prob vote against it”. They just had another press conference to the same effect.

Now you’d imagine that if they didn’t know the details they’d cool the jets a bit to see what the story is but presumably they’re trying their damnedest to prevent it getting through cabinet by ramping up the pressure.

They’re very worried because their leverage could be slipping away too.

Surely it’s pointless looking at them, sense and reason don’t apply.

There’s no reason to look at them. That doesn’t mean it’s not amusing though …

The DUP are being really really thick but not just from an economic POV. On that they are getting special privileges that should see them become a top destination for inward investment.

But constitutionally they are making such a big deal out of this all that if the vote is lost, their shtick is damaged. They have already been exposed in the London press for being backward hicks and are embarrassing the north. Losing this though- what can they actually say? They could bluster through the Anglo Irish agreement, the Downing Street declaration and Good Friday Agreement, pretending that they were still an “integral” part of the UK. But that was always because the Brits were too scared to cut them adrift.

Now what? If they die on this hill, where does that leave their notion of unionism? They have made this out to be a battle for the Union when it really really isn’t. The trick for the Union to survive is economic prosperity and this deal offers them a great shot at that.

What a complete shit show … All we need now is Bob Geldof to come out and speak of the power of a unified Britain. And Gazza to turn up at No.10 with a bag of cans and a fishing rod.

What a day this will be if the Unionists are told to get fucked.

Farage has just called for the PM to be courtmartialled on his radio show.

Letters going in according to the BBC. No confidence vote tomorrow possible.
