His being the Lions coach has nowt to do with me despising him. Iv despised him for well over a decade now.

Because he’s an ignorant pig of a man. He never shuts up talking shit in the media. He has in the past claimed in the press that when he was with Ireland that the players neither liked or respected the Welsh players which was just a lie. There is a huge emnity amongst major sections of Welsh and Irish fans and he played a major part in that.

I don’t really care whether you like/dislike him. My issue is that you let your hatred cloud his achievements as a coach

Where did I do that? He WAS an exceptionally successful coach. He was brilliant at Connacht, Ireland and Wasps. He also did v well with Wales for the first 5 or 6 years. But they have underperformed massively for three or four seasons. He should have left if he wanted to coach the lions but he didn’t because he wanted to have his cake and eat it

He didn’t do that though. I wasn’t a fan of bringing those players in but wasn’t going mad like some people over it. He should have stuck to his guns and played them to actually protect players for Tests. He admitted that the media changed his mind which is just indefensible, no matter your opinion of him as coach.
As a coach, I think he was shafted by Ireland. I never had a problem with him dropping O’Driscoll. I do think he is just above average though. His international record is 50/50 and dire versus the SH for Wales. Even if the Lions pull it off next week he will never get the All Blacks job for a few very good reasons.
How many Grand Slams has he won? Serious question.
Schmidt gets a free pass off the Irish media who are terrified of him but Ireland have lost an awful lot of big games under him - while playing a horrendous hoof it and chase game.
He is a very nice man. I’ve met him a few times.
