British Loins Tour to New Zealand 2017 - Official Thread

Fair play @gilgamboa. It’s tough being out there looking for work, pounding the streets Monday to Friday. You deserve to sit on your ass for the weekend.

Geoffrey is he Richard or Paul’s son ?? Paul was part of the 1988 Triple Crown team and went north along with a good few of that team.

It was better before he edited it.

Fella should stick to his guns in fairness. Some dose pulling the berlingo into the hard shoulder twice to bang out two versions of the one lame joke

Ah Gil. More of a new twist on an old favourite?

@GeoffreyBoycott
wonderfully laid out squad with the proper initials and clubs
@Sidney, who was the bolter?

A new twist might have been to suggest that I had been forced off the dole into a job providing overnight security at an unused warehouse and I was able to watch the games on my phone in the hut.

Just expected a bit more from you is all up the game a bit. BTW. Any chance you could have a word with the TD that sorted your families planning permission that time and see could he put a word in anywhere for me?

The old system is broken. TD’s can be transient fly by nights and can’t be trusted. What you want is someone in the council or a new fella keen to show his mettle. Try your man Mick Barry he thinks everyone should be given a free house.

Outrageous!

The map appears to be missing South Africa, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, etc

Agreed. I despise rugby football but always enjoy @GeoffreyBoycott posts and thoughts on the matter. Looking forward to the B&I Lions updates.

Moriarty was as effective as any of the Welsh back rows over course of competition I thought. Warburton and Tipuric had their moments. Faletau going is just a cod. Struggling for form in a shit team in the premiership and nothing done at international level.

Watson only came off the bench that day against Wales, he was sensational in that game alright but don’t think he has done enough to be disappointed not to be a lion at this stage. Albeit with a 41 man squad 2 Scots is a joke. Richie Gray is only one individual Scot I think has been hard done by really though.

Russel is a showpony who went missing for Glasgow and Scotland a few times when the chips were really down this season, his bungled conversion against France a no show against England incl several missed pens to touch he shit the bed against Munster in Glasgow with no effort at drop goal to win it.

Huge Jones might have been a bolter but he is injured isn’t He?

Will have a few quid on Nowell to be top tour tryscorer anyway. Think he has a very good chance of playing his way into test teams but will probably start out playing good few midweek games

I don’t get this fascination with Warburton. Tipuric and O’Brien are very different, but both are better opensides than him.

There are several better blindsides. Making him captain makes it a weaker team from the off.

Felatau really isn’t going to bother too many out there either. And he hasn’'t played at all really. Tipuric is a fantastic player though.

AWJ is not at the races at this level either. People mentioning him as captain material. There are 3-4 English locks ahead of him, along with both Greys. Launchbury is a fair step ahead of him and should be a nailed on tourist, probable starter.

Welsh teams have no history of beating southern teams. A couple of wins in 30 years. Back-boning a Lions team in NZ with these lads is nuts.

Agree that Warburton is a dubious enough choice of captain. He’s injured at the moment but apart from that, would be touch and go as to whether he’s worth a starting place.

Gatland won’t be backboning his test team with Welsh players. In any of these selections, the first 20-25 places are pretty much cast in stone. The rest that the squabbling and endless debate is over are essentially the also rans who are making up the numbers. Gatland has done what another former Wales/British Lions coach, Sir Graham Henry did in 2001, packed the squad with Welsh players. The likes of Halfpenny, Faletau, Davies, AW Jones were terrific players in their prime/at full fitness but are miles off the pace now. Ditto the likes of Dan Biggar. The problem for Henry post 2001 was all the dross from Wales he brought all had notions that they should have been on the test team and had an axe to grind with him.

I suspect this tour could undermine Gatty’s tenure with Wales in the same way the 2001 tour undermined Graham Henry’s.

Scotland’s treatment has been almost laughable and this could yet drive some traditional conservative Scotch bordermen into the dastardly arms of the SNP.

Certainly if I was David Mundell MP I’d be a worried man tonight.

Gatland justified his pick of Payne earlier partly on basis of his performances in beating England and NZ. If that’s really important to him why pick loads of welsh players who have bottled multiple chances to beat southern hemisphere opposition.

Of course the reality is he is conflicted as fuck. He is on a sabbatical from a well paid job that he will return to no matter how bad a beating the lions take. He will need to face these Welsh players and get them motivated to play for him again. Absolutely no surprise at all what he’s done

i was a huge fan of rugby football from 1987 to 1993
i would say the WC in 1991 fascinated me but by 1995 i was done

  • the 5 nations
  • the SWALEC cup
  • tour matches played on a wednesday afternoon in november
  • the welsh league ( highlights on HTV on a saturday night)
  • the january Probables Possibles clash
  • the MSL as chroniclaised by Barry Coughlan in the Cork Examiner and LSL that was covered by the Sunday Independent
    these were my tournaments of interest

the heineken cup and the onset of the provinces who i only associated with the interpros in november december was the beginning of my downfall
i think by the time The title newspaper were publishing warren gatland’s irish record on its front page i was done
its a shame really

@GeoffreyBoycott’s post above is phenomenal
