Its amazing that Wales allowed him to take the British Lions gig again. Two and a half years out from a World Cup, you need to be blooding new papers with an eye on the World Cup. Howley as caretaker coach clearly felt he had no mandate for change or experimentation, so Wales have been persisting with a lot deadwood and the likes of AW Jones, Halfpenny, Jonathan Davies, Jamie Roberts all of who’s better days seem to be behind them and even an uninspiring Biggar at out half. Wales have only capped 3 new players since the World Cup, Ireland have capped 20 new players.
Wales still have some decent players going on tour and the likes of Ken Owens, Justin Tipuric, Liam Williams, George North (injury permitting), Rhys Webb and obviously Warburton as captain all could play big roles.
@GeoffreyBoycott made the exact point you did a good while back. Its an absolute joke Wales have allowed him to do this. And they knew it was going to happen when they offered him the new contract too
Correct. As were the British Lions winning teams of 1971 and 1974. When Wales went to Australia in 2013, they had won the Championship in 2013, a Grand Slam in 2012 and were by some distance the best performing of the British Isles representatives at the 2011 World Cup. Wales dominated the 2013 British Lions test team on merit. Wales have been utterly rubbish since 2013 though and by rights should only have had about 6 players selected this time around.
