British Loins Tour to New Zealand 2017 - Official Thread

Fair play to him.

Danny Care will get the call.

Reckon he’ll call up Gareth Davies.

Would be a case of history almost repeating itself if it was Greig Laidlaw. When first choice scrum half Terry Holmes broke his leg in the first test in Christchurch in 1983, Roy Laidlaw took over the Number 9 jersey.

The Jed-Forest club is truly a conveyor belt of great scrum halves .

Not history almost repeating itself.

It was hardly a tough decision ffs sake

Ben Youngs will obviously come out with the usual stuff about it being “an easy decision” and “this really puts rugby into perspective” and “family obviously comes first in a situation like this”.

But there will no doubt be a very large, but silent part of him thinking:

"Fuck you, you bitch, of all the times you had to pick to be diagnosed with terminal cancer, you had to pick now, didn’t you? Could you not have waited another couple of fucking months at least?

Or could you not just have gotten it over with quickly, instead of dragging it out so you deny me the one chance I’ll ever have of going on a British Loins tour to New Zealand? Why, why, why, did you have to pick now?

I’m 27 now, this was my chance. The last time the Loins toured New Zealand, I was 15. I was a kid. The next time they tour I’ll be 39 and past it. I’ll probably be desperately trying to carve out a short-lived niche for myself in the world of rugby punditry, which, let’s face it, is a rather smaller one than the world of football punditry, where any half-illiterate pleb from a council estate can go on Sky Sports News and shout like a performing seal for money. I’ll be lucky to get a gig doing analysis for on the hour BBC Radio Leicester updates of Tigers matches, once a month. Or I’ll be furiously trying to earn French to get a job coaching the reserves at Grenoble or Bayonne or Pau. Or I’ll be nursing a long-term brain injury which has badly affected my quality of life.

This was my ONE chance to go on a Loins tour to New Zealand. And you’ve gone and fucked it right up, Tiffany, fucked it right up on me.

Would it be rude to hope you get it over with quickly? The plane leaves on May 29th. If you get it over with in the next week, I could still go. I’d still be there at the funeral, be able to comfort Tom for a week, be seen to be there and all. But I’d be able to go. Tom’s a big boy, he’ll survive without me for six weeks.

Come on, Tiff, do me this favour, just the once. I promise, I’ll never ask again."

Because the British Loins isn’t just a matter of life and death, it’s much, much more important than that.

G.D. Laidlaw (Gloucester & Scotland) has been officially named as the replacement for B.R. Youngs (Leicester & England).

As somebody who has been banging the Laidlaw drum for months, this is a great vindication for me.

Greig will bring tremendous skill, versatility, experience and, most importantly, leadership to this British touring party. He’ll be going in fresh as a daisy after his recent injury and I expect he’ll be a revelation on tour. He strikes me as the sort of chap who doesn’t mince his words, will bring savage Scotch humour and will be absolutely hilarious in a kangaroo court setting. That’s the sort of man every Loins touring party needs.

That voiceover by Jim Telfer on the Gilette (official razor to the Lions) advert is marvellous.
Let’s bash the New Zealander’s (as per Mattie Williams will not use the term A** B*****)

Ferguson was a winner to his finger tips.

The lions are a losing brand.

More in their line to hire the kiwis for the sort of insight they’re after.

He seemed to lose out badly in that horse thing.
