British Loins Tour to New Zealand 2017 - Official Thread

It’s nothing short of heroic what’s expected of those men.

Who said that? You appear to have gotten caught up in the hype of the Lions mate. Suppose you needed something positive to cling to for the next while seeing as your hurlers have imploded. Enjoy anyways but I’m just not as into the Lions as you are

Didn’t get to see the game this morning due to work commitments and have just been catching up now on some of the reports and reaction. The New Zealand press is always good for a laugh. The Auckland win is getting hailed by sections of the New Zealand press as redemption for their coach Tana Umaga against the British Lions. Umaga was apparently the real victim of the spear tackle on Brian O’Driscoll in 2005.

Geoff
will the tourists by engaging in any colonial duties such as visiting indigenous peoples and praising the natives for their ability to live in mud huts or the likes?

It’s the New Zealand press that were bringing it up again. Maybe you should right a letter to them if you’re so exercised about it.

where did they bring it up mate?

There was a crowd of scantily clad Maoris to greet them at Auckland airport when they arrived last week. The Maoris did their silly little war dance and Gatty rubbed noses with one of the Maori lads.

Mark Reason one of the foremost rugby journalists in New Zealand referenced it in a piece he wrote after this mornings match.

you said sections of the NZ press mate.

So far you have given one sentence in one article

Mark Reason won the TP McLean Sports Journalism award in December 2016. Sir Terry McLean was the doyen of New Zealand rugby journalists. Sir Terry (if he was still alive) would be appalled by such gutter journalism and the raking up of that horrific assault by Umaga on Brian O’Driscoll. The first two paragraphs of this piece rank as the worst rugby journalism I have ever read.

The Lions looked like they might escape, but the Blues picked them up, held them in the air and speared the body into the ground. This was Tana Umaga’s night of redemption. This was the moment when he can finally move on from that moment of brutality 12 years ago.

Just as it was back in 2005, some of the officiating was bizarre, to say the least, and the Lions players did extremely well to keep their mouths shut. But it has always been thus at Eden Park and the Lions had better get used to it in a hurry, because there are two test matches yet to be played at the ground.

New Zealand will always have the shame of the 2011 RWC “win” to deal with .

You’re very touchy about something you are not really into Dan.

Fucking hell that’s shocking stuff there.
I was in NZ for that series and the Kiwis were sick shit of the moaning about the spear tackle but that’s just awful.

The attack on Drico was the worst thing ever seen on a sports pitch in history. Umaga should have been jailed for attempted murder

The Script at Croke Park surely beats it.

@Little_Lord_Fauntleroy is of the view that the attack on Drico was fair game.

A disgraceful comment

It beggars belief.

The tans don’t like it up em… The Maori lads sorted O’Driscoll good and proper and they’ll sort out what ever fodder the Brits send out against them next also.
