I suppose Socrates had hung up his Mikasa gloves by that stage?
Most GAA players outside of Down can’t kick the ball over the bar form the distance Brooke kicked that drop goal, mate.
That’s a fact.
As I said, Maurice Fitzgerald kicking a round ball over the bar out of his hands from the same distance as Zinzan Brooke kicked that drop goal was voted the second greatest GAA moment of all-time.
A devastating admission of the shit skill levels in the sport of GAA.
Gaelic football players can’t deal with anything other than a round hall so demand Australian Rules players use their one exclusively. It’s no wonder guys like Zinzan Brooke and Beaudan Barrett dominate when they try their hand at GGA.
Socrates never played GAA, you gullible fool.
He played association football for Shelbourne reserves.
Was that not UCD?
They should play that Compromise Rules with an oval ball every once in a while and we’d get a look at Gaelic football skill levels.
No. He nearly played for them but fell out with Dr. Tony O’Neill before he had played a match.
Indeed. One of the greatest Gaelic football players of all time, Pat Spillane, once said that after coaching a rugby team for a month they would be competitive in the All Ireland competition.
How do you confuse a Gaelic football player? Put him in a round hall and tell him to sit in the corner.
I think that would confuse most people mate
No, I don’t think it would.
I’d like to see a compromise ball for the Compromise Rules.
Sort of a roundier egg shape.
Here’s my XV from professional era:
15- Christian Cullen
14- Jeff Wilson
13- Conrad Smith
12- Ma Nonu
11- Jonah Lomu
10- Dan Carter
9- Aaron Smith
1- Tony Woodcock
2- Sean Fitzpatrick
3- Carl Hayman
4- Brad Thorn
5- Brodie Retallick
6- Michael Jones
7- Richie McCaw
8- Zinzan Brooke
Hard to disagree but for me Read is absolutely in the discussion. He still has games ahead of him and while Zinzan would still he most people’s choice, Read is creeping in more and more.
You’re also underrating Kaino a bit, he’s certainly in discussion as the best 6 for NZ of the pro era. He was one of the key 4 or 5 players the NZRU identified as needing post 2011.
Marshall would be in the discussion as well but Smith has a great chance to being an all time great chance of being the all time greatest scrum half. His athleticism is off the charts, the way he can drive left or right from a scrum or breakdown and distribute/kick/go himself is insane.
there is no comparison between gaelic football and rugby union, rugby union players have far more skill
I saw a fella pick up a bouncing ball with one hand yesterday, the sky sports commentators seemed to think he should join a circus
Plenty of noise that Itoje for AW Jones and Warburton for O’Mahony are two changes already more or less cast in stone. Courntey Lawes if he has a big game against Wellington tomorrow could also be in the frame to replace Kruis.
In fairness rugby union is in terminal decline the world over. (Except in pockets of rural Ireland where it is making inroads).
British Lions side to face Wellington this morning.
