It’s not a good thing to be compared to Vladimir Putin.
He’s a strategic thinker of the highest order.
If he was a strategic thinker of the highest order he wouldn’t be stuck in a military quagmire in Ukraine entirely of his own making and he wouldn’t have lost control over Syria.
If he was a US President and named George W. Bush he’d be ridiculed as the most spectacular blunderer since, eh, eh, I don’t know, eh, Hitler? Who for some time was also thought of by many as a strategic thinker of the highest order.
The point about the difference between tactics and strategy has been made before. Putin is good at tactics, not strategy.
Putin’s currency is short term “victories” which ensure long term destruction for Russia.
Of course of if you maintain he only thinks about his bank balance, his personal grip on power and on causing as much wreck in the world as possible and nothing else, then you may say he’s a strategic thinker. And that would be fair.
But he is not a strategic thinker as regards his country, he’s a wrecker of his country.
