Start out with a 12/12 split mate (7pm 7am fast). After a few weeks start moving breakfast forward by an hour a week. You can by 16/8 after 4 weeks.

It works wonders combined with paleo.

Preparation is the key as always.

cheers mate

started last night with the fast- 1 hour to go

not feeling too bad- had 2 cans of coke zero which made it easier but next time ill go with water only as caffeine is evil

Van say I’ve heard of this, what’s the purpose/ benefit of fasting?

lose weight, less sugar in your diet, live longer

The body does a lot of positive “stuff” on an empty stomach by the reading of it CM. Deals with fat loss a lot better, deals with antioxidants in the body, cholesterol etc…

I was kinda doing this by default the year I spend travelling in 2003 and I suppose it no coincidence I dropped 3 stone over the 12 months.

I am going to give this Stronglifts 5x5 a go over the next 8 weeks along with a mild form of this IM combined with Paleo.

Starting out stats:

13 stone 1 pound
20.7 on the Calipers http://www.accumeasurefitness.com/charts.html

To long term weight loss/maintainence I would suggest anyone needs to speed up their metabolism. Now for a long time people were told their metabolism was genetic or just the way you are, but you manipulate it and speed ut up. Training is the best way to do it and it takes time. You have to teach a certain level of fitness first and doing this using interval training will help speed up your metabolism. Then once you are comfortable and fit you can add metabolic workouts to your week, one a week will do wonders for the ordinary person. These workouts are intense but short in nature. Hitting the whole body doing full body exercises are the bet for this. Even at elite levels of sport they do these types of work outs, using simple, often just body weight exercises.

You could do something as straightforward as this.

(after a 5 min warm up)
15 mins of this rotation on a 15 seconds on 15 secs off work:rest ratio.

Burpees
Press ups
Reverse lunges
Pull/chin ups

For someone who does more training or plays field sports this is one I do sometimes at a pitch, walk out 50 and 100M and mark them .There is rest built into this so you just keep going for at least 5 sets. Good for muscular endurance as well, this is done non stop.

  • Press ups x 15 or 6-8 power presses with claps
  • 100m run @ 75%
  • broad jumps x 5 (heading back towards starting point), walk after 5 completed to half way.
  • 50m sprint from half way to starting point
  • pull ups from goal post
  • 6-8 burpees

Start again an keep going. Start with 3 circuits, work up to at least 5 and then start timing it to see if you are getting faster. That’s a metabolic workout.

Kev, can you take this to the new thread please, and answer my question…

cheers kev

any views on fasting?

horizon did a show on it saying it was miraculous

A lot of talk about it these days alright. What Kev says substantiates what I’ve always thought about it though. It seems like it would wreak havoc on your metabolism which has lots of other implications for recovery and muscle growth. Wouldn’t be for me anyway but it seems to work for some people.

Train hard, and you can relatively eat what you want. I love my grub way too much and I don’t care what the benefits are there’s no way I would deny myself it. I’d rather break my hole training just to break even than go without.

It’s all about becoming a better Catholic.

I’d say TASE will start off with the fasting, then it’ll be no meat on Fridays or Sundays except when he’s coaching his new local under-8 paedostick team.
