Calling @Mac

Hi @Mac,

I am currently being tapped up (non-sexual way) by a recruiter on Linkedin. My head has been turned, the current company I work for are extremely busy at the moment and without meaning to sound quite arrogant, I am very important to them but I think I need a change and the financial package talked about seems interesting. Is there a minimum term of notice you are legally required to give before leaving? I would like to get a good idea on what my exit strategy will be before giving heed to these overtures. I have been in my current job now just over three years.

Thanks.

Your notice period should be in your contract.

Yeah, I looked through that this evening but didn’t see anything related to that? Is that an oversight on their part and would that entitle me to fuck off whenever I please?

No. Reread it. If its not in it then you may not be entitled to leave at all.

I don’t believe you.

If it’s not specified in your contract then you only have to give one week.

Tell the other company it’s one month, take three weeks off and head for a two week holiday in the home country and brush up on your Italian whilst visiting the cousins.

One week back in Oirland and then start the new job nice and refreshed.

You’d be right not to. If it doesn’t specify a period then your notice period may be a week

Also, I’d take any proposals from LinkedIn with a grain of salt. The employer they’re talking about may not even have a job available and they’re just getting you onto their books so they can whore you around to any potential employers. Recruitment consultants are the lowest of the low. Validate with them that they’re the only recruiter for the position and what benefit do they give you over you applying directly to the company? Do you know anyone in said company who could refer you for the position as that will likely carry much more benefit to your application.

Top advice, @Mac.

I’m going to tell them I’m a free man and I’m going out the front door, with Jarry.

@Nembo Kid - how much dialogue have you had with the recruiter? Or is it based on just one message to you?

The recruiter has been stalking me on Linkedin since the start of the year with new openings. I ignored him for a while but I’m getting a bit restless in my current job and the latest proposal seems enticing.

Has communication been all one way or have you actually been replying to him? If any of the positions were serious then discussion would probably have moved to email by now rather than over LinkedIn.

All joking aside mate he could be sending them to a thousand others in the hopes of a bite. Worth looking into but don’t get carried away

That’s the point I was subtly working towards. LinkedIn has replaced outgoing email spam as the method of choice of recruitment agents. If Nembo has been engaged over an back with this lad then its something positive at least.

I met a russian teacher on linked in …she didn’t teach anything only sucking

Ahh blake you twat

DECENCY FOR DUNNES WORKERS
IMPACT is asking union members and their families to attend a march and rally in support of the workers employed in Dunnes Stores who suffer as a result of the use of low hour contracts and zero hour contracts.

The rally takes place this Saturday (6th June) in Dublin, starting at 1pm from Merrion Square.

Deputy general secretary Kevin Callinan is urging branches to attend Saturday’s rally. He explained "Many IMPACT branches were involved in offering practical support to the Dunnes workers during their one day strike in April. Those efforts were reallyappreciated by the MANDATE members involved and their union leadership.

“Regrettably, on return to work many of the strike leaders at shop level were victimised through an insidious campaign of dismissals, rostering changes and reassignment to other duties. This is designed to break the workers resolve and to avoid collective bargaining with their unions. More than every they need our support.

“The heart of this issue is decent work- secure employment and some certainty on working arrangements, and the right to be represented in discussions on pay and conditions of employment. It is something that should be important to public sector workers too. Poor private sector pay and conditions affect our family members and, in time, will affect our children. But also if these practices gain hold they will be foisted on the public sector too.

“The union is seeking a large IMPACT presence on 6 June 2015. The demonstration commences at lpm so it will conclude by early afternoon. We are appealing to branches to take steps to ensure that there is a large visible attendance of IMPACT members by circulating the information, seeking commitments to attend, and arranging transport including buses and bringing branch banners if possible. This is an opportunity for IMPACT to show that public sector and private sector workers will stand together for decent work.
