Calling The Selfish Giant

It’s your turn to help me mate. Can I visit a grave outside my 5km area at the moment? Citizens Info site doesn’t mention graves and it used to. Sites like the Irish Mirror mention that I can but those articles are from mid January and I might have missed a rule change.

Can you get me an answer please @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy

Fire ahead mate

Visiting graves not included this time round

They were actually never included.
They were mentioned at the announcement but then quietly removed when they realised how open to exploitation it was.

No guard will stop you going to visiting a grave within reason.

I was stopped at a checkpoint this morning and asked the Garda. She told me its the Garda’s discretion on if they deem it essential or not.

Exactly, like most things, if you are honest and straight with the guard there’ll be no issue, unless you meet a right prick.

So 50/50 chance it’ll work

So replace gearbag for a bunch of flowers or sacred heart and you’re good to go?

What about unmarked, hidden graves ?

just tell them you are visiting a grave, they wont care, its groups of people well outside the 5km
they are worried about - be pleasant and open with them, they wont hassle you

It’s still up as a reasonable excuse on the gov.ie site, updated 01/02/21 :man_shrugging:

I remember at the time of the original announcement back in October it was commented that it never made its way into the actual law when they were published.
