Wasn’t a fan of bristow but he’s part in the split which spelled the end for the bdo earns him respect.
Some Mozart would be apt too- RIP
Only 74. Was only 43 when full metal jacket was made. I assumed he was close to 60 at the time
Ah no!
The reacharound guy? What a marvelous descriptive word to have brought to prominence,
Sad news, that was one of the best performances in history, incredible character.
Outstanding barrage of insults
He really dominated first half of the film
Never heard of him. Not a celebrity.
I’ll bet you’re the kinda guy that would fuck a person in the ass, and not even have the Goddamn common courtesy to give him a reach-around.
You had best square your ass away and start shitting me tiffany cufflinks, or I will definitely fuck you up.
edit for correct quote in light of wyt’s below
How tall are you, private?
Well, no shit. What have we got here, a fucking comedian? Private Joker! I admire your honesty. Hell, I like you. You can come over to my house and fuck my sister. [socks Bandage in the gut] You little scumbag! I got your name! I got your ass! You will not laugh! You will not cry! You will learn by the numbers! I will teach you! Now get up! Get on your feet! You had best unfuck yourself, or I will unscrew your head and shit down your neck!
That’s one of the greatest movie scenes ever… I remember my uncle renting that and the Shining out for me when I was baby sitting for him when I was around 13… I watched this first and of course loved the cursing and adventure of war … The Shining was a different matter as I sat in the dark above in Glasgow Park on my own.
Assume a few coaches of teams saw the movie and decided they would give pre match pep talks in this style.
Apparently he ad-libbed a lot of it
I’ll pop out your eyeballs and skull fcuk you is another classic
I read a story once about how he was only there as a consultant (had been a marine drill instructor before getting into movies) but to show what he would do, stood in front of a crowd of 20 people, Kubrick included, and went at this craic for 20 solid minutes while all the crowd threw rotten fruit at him. Kubrick then gave him the role. Dunno if true or not but a nice story.
Certainly typecast but always fun to watch.

The first half of full metal jacket is as close to cinema perfection as it gets,
The second half (war) is fairly shit
