The final scene was a profound a statement on war. A bunch of brutalised, traumatised ordinary kids, heroes and criminals singing mickey mouse: Lost childhood, a longing for home, a shared experience, the absurdity of their experience, tragedy, the juxtaposition of two cultures, innocence, guilt, suffering, death and hope. It was all there in a few seconds. It was nothing short of extraordinary.
