Exactly. He was a cunt but he was consistent about it not like those other weasels. You mightn’t have liked him but you knew where you stood with him. Very much of a different age to the world we live in today. In fact it could be argued that it’s precisely because of a lack of Gaybos that we are currently witnessing such a relentless rise of Bojo’s.
Byrne was a great interviewer. Him giving Flynn the rope to hang himself was superb. I really liked his Meaning of Life series - really interesting interviews.
Sure he took sides at times but it was always entertaining.
Fr Brian was on Newstalk as well there, he’s doing the rounds. Reckoned Gay could have made it as a broadcaster in the US but he loved Ireland too much.
Gaybo and Harbo two patriots
What’s the story with him anyway? A priest hanging around celebrities. I’d say he’s about as celibate as Mick Jagger.
@caulifloweredneanderthal’s move to Dundalk to set up a cross-border mobile euthanasia service has really paid off here.
Sssssssssh…
The boss of his cleaner mate in Gaybo’s hospital better not see this thread and what was leaked last Saturday.
'tis easy enough figure out where my lines of communication are in this case, and the HSE or auxiliary services don’t feature.
He probably didn’t shake Adams’s hand because of Enniskillen, Patsy Gillespie, Teebane, Warrington and the Shankill Road bomb etc.
It’s fair enough when you think about it
The ceasefire was nine weeks old
Sinn Fein were going to have to be brought into the political process at some point but Byrne was fully entitled to have his views and air them
SF weren’t admitted to the political process until September 1997, after another round of violence - this was November 1994
If a presenter either here or in Britain had refused to shake hands with Paisley or Gusty Spence they would have been eulogised
Just watching the Flynn interview again on the news here.
[On Tom Gilmartin]
‘He’s not well, his wife’s not well’
What a horrible cunt.
Serious patient confidentiality issues here.
I heard a similar joke a few years ago when Stephen Gately died, he was going to be cremated live on TV, they were going to call it the Gay Byrne Show
He was a castle catholic.
I was sharing a car journey after 430pm today. Ivan Yates had Eoghan Harris on to eulogise him. It was a cuntfest of epic proportions. The Cark cunt spent his time running down Ireland and the republic, talking about IRA, Sinn Fein and nationalism which had nothing to do with the castle catholic cunt…
That’s right Paul, make it all about you.
Scratch Teebane actually
In January 1992, Brooke appeared on the Irish chat show, The Late Late Show . After a pleasant interview, the presenter, Gay Byrne, coaxed and goaded the unwilling Brooke into singing “Oh My Darling, Clementine”, on a day when seven Protestant construction workers had been killed by an IRA bomb.
I thought Adams came across as very arrogant in that interview actually. Granted he was faced with an ambush - no pun intended.
Adams utterly eviscerated Byrne there and showed up his agenda and ambush for what it was.
Any sign of a Roy Curtis poem yet, lamenting the passing of a Dublin hero.
