When he was on Eurovision he oft referred to the entry from his country of birth as âthe Irishâ ⌠It was all We when it came to the Brit entry⌠A stones of a man.
I changed channels.
Terry lived for the red light and for the listener at the other end
Some lovely deaths this year.
A great start to the year this.
Tears of joy he cried as it was a nice little earner for him. Cashing in on sick children. A vile bastard.
He was reported to be the only celebrity paid for his participation in Children in Need, having received a fee every year since 1980 (ÂŁ9,065 in 2005). Wogan, however, stated that he would âquite happily do it for nothingâ and that he ânever asked for a feeâ. The BBC stated that the fee had ânever been negotiatedâ. There is no record, however, of Wogan ever having repaid his fee from previous years.j
Why were you watching on the British broadcaster?
he also possessed that rare talent,he could transfer his radio skills to the TV effortlessly, an innovator
thats a serious clamping, its been a very bad few days for choco
I wasnât⌠It is widely reported.
I was 8/9 Iâd say when Terry was on the Eurovision, pal.
So comfortable in his own skin, what an inspiration. The insecure âtrue Gaelsâ canât fathom how a proud Irishman could love Britain.
roasters who probably have only ever travelled as far as somewhere like Cork, they just canât get their heads around it
he never set out to be famous according to himself, so humble
his love of language came from his hometown Limerick and his love of British culture
It makes you think about the amount of Paddies who never amounted to anything but could have if they just let go of the hate.
Not a massive fan of the guy but he may as well have taken the fee as I am sure there were a lot of people "working for charities " being paid further down the line. Rehab only scratched the surface of the "Charities " buisness
He was the only one who took a fee, and tried to cover it up for years. And when he was exposed he refused to pay it back. He was a scumbag.
My favourite El Tel moments are as follows:
i) The 1998 Eurovision Song Contest, which he presented with Ulrika Jonsson.
It was a beautifully sunny evening after a beautifully sunny afternoon, and I was drunk as a skunk from drinking home brew lager all afternoon listening to the radio as Swedenâs Henrik Larsson fired Irelandâs team, Celtic, to the Scottish League title and stopped 10 in a row in a the process. It was so appropriate that an Irishman and a Swede should dominate television screens across Europe that night. Shortly after the contest started, I vomited in the back garden, but it was the vomit of happiness at the dayâs events. I continued drinking afterwards.
ii) A story my father once told me about Terry unbuttoning Emer OâKellyâs blouse as she read the news live on Radio Eireann in the 1960s. Poor Emer couldnât do anything about it and had to continue reading as she was involuntarily undressed. Great bantz and great professionalism. Sadly the advent of political correctness means youâd get sacked for that kind of thing nowadays, and what a pity that is.
