The second US national with links to County Clare in the news in the last 24 hours. A great fighter, possibly the best and credit for his principled opposition to the Vietnam war. On the whole, I didnāt like the guy. The black Muslim stuff was very sinister and his demonisation of opponents particularly Joe Frazier was a disgrace. Give me Smokin Joe any day.

That sounds like the kind of thing @Fitzy would come out with. Smokin Joe was a thoroughly alright sort. I wandered out to his gym on spec when I was in Philadelphia about 20 years ago and luckily the great man was there. A really nice decent man and most convivial company.
