Those were the days when teams could come straight from the old division two into competing for division one. A much more level field and before money destroyed everything. A good manager could make a real difference.
He managed the Watford team of the eighties . Bisett , Barnes , George Riley , the great Mo Johnsron etc . Remember Nigel Callaghan a winger .
Always seemed a decent sort with compassion . The scum press hounded him. I think the Wembley game v Holland for USA 1994 Started his fall after a bad Euro finals . Marc Overmars skinned des walker for pace when walker was deemed indominatable on that score .
Professional fouls were punishable by a red card long before 1993, as far as I know. I think the rule goes back to about 1983 or so.
The De Kuip really is one of the great cathedrals of European football. I think the roof had just been added to it the summer before that Holland v England game.
Feyenoord have been planning a new stadium for a few years. Feyenoord fans are overwhelmingly dead against it as they don’t want to leave the De Kuip, which is perfectly adequate for their needs as it is, and also because the club could potentially bankrupt themselves by building it.
We’ve lost another hero of the sporting world lads. Red Rum’s jockey Brian Fletcher has passed away aged 69, R.I.P.
Was it MurdeR
You’re so mixed up here that you have that backwards Art
The papers will be full of tributes to him tomorrow, the cunts. Their treatment of him was disgraceful and some of the grief he got in public was apparently awful.
An alright sort. RIP.
Gramham Taylor was a gentleman RIP.Wasn’t the turnip thing after Sweden beat them in the euro’s.
Yep .
Assume it had something to do with the real name for what we call turnips.
Swedes 2 Turnips 1 was the headline the day after Sweden knocked Engerlund out if Euro 92.
Don’t forget about Red Alligator.
A hat trick of celebrity deaths today as Bronski Beat keyboardist Larry Steinbachek dies aged 56.
Shades of Anthony Foley alright.
Big tribute on 5live tonight
it was the defeat to Norway tho that june that really screwed him , Jostein Flo, Jan Aage Fjotoft, etc.
They were the days of serious world cup qualifiers, all on wednesdays, we had spain, denmark and the prods in a group, england had holland norway , poland maybe
also remember in nov 93 the night we played NI , san marino scored after 10s against england
walker had searing pace alright on a very good forest team of that era 1988-1992 (or maybe he was in italy by then?) , they ended up being relegated under Mr.Clough in May 1993 but really bounced back
that forest team was excellent, wonderful cup record in the littlewoods and simod cups, always there in the latter stages of the FA cup and consistent top 6 in the league
we all followed them at home after roy signed in 1990, played us down in cobh and won 5-1, Gary Parker over in the house having a cup of tea and a buiscuit after the game and about 15 pints with Terry Wilson… simple but great times
