Whelan always came across as an alright sort. Remember seeing campaign pictures of when he ran for Fianna Fail in the late 90s and he looked far closer to 40 than 25 in them them.
Bye girls!
[Woooooo!!!]
Pair of wankers.

Noel Whelan was an insufferable boll1x but may he rest in peace. Very young.
Spent a lot of his political career issuing âhealth warningsâ about exit polls so it was always going to be slightly ironic when he passed away.
Never really knew the extent of his FF background. He was always fairly neutral around election time on RTE.
Would have had him down for closer to 60 than 50.
This is the sort of utter bullshit that Noel Whelan did so much to rebut with his facts and compassionate debating.
From todayâs Belfast Telegraph:
Raging that he wasnât first to break the news.
Nice to see the kids stayed close for all those years. RIP
i think augustsus was still stuck
Noel was a decent sort. I knew him quite well. Diagnosed out of the blue at Easter and dead in 10 weeks. Got to watch yourself once you hit 40.
He came across as a condescending boll1x when it came to Politics*. He had no time for anyone who wasnât FF/FG or Labour. A true 26 county establishment mouth piece.
*he could well have been sound outside of that.
From a decent stock, I went to school with or worked with at least four or five of his brothers over the years, he was a Good Counsel College alumni also but was out of there just before my time and he would have done some work with the 'oul lad as well.
If heâd stayed local be would have had a better chance of winning his DĂĄil seat, standing in Dublin was always going to be difficult for him. As an elections nerd myself I always enjoys his election count coverage and previews to the big day as well.
He always came across as a decent sort who had the best interests of the country at heart, regardless of the Fianna FĂĄil background.
Heâll be missed. R.I.P.
Big family. 12 of them in it. The politics and punditry were only a sideline really. He had a huge legal practice and was the prosecutor in Waterford for years. Heâs been buried in Ballycullane on Saturday.
I saw Noel since the turn of the year around the Four Courts Luas stop. He seemed fine physically but obviously went downhill very quickly.
50 is awful young to be struck down. His wife has lost her life partner now. The Bug is a cunt.
I had lunch with him about three weeks before he was diagnosed. Last time I saw him. He was elevated to Senior Counsel this time last year, so that meant he was back in Dublin nearly full time after 20 years of practicing on the South East Circuit, mostly Wexford and Waterford in latter years. He was on a health kick, had lost a good bit of weight, was exercising regularly and had a lot more family time. Things that are not possible when youâre gone all week and living out of a suitcase. Cancer is cruel and indiscriminate.
Sorry to hear about your friend Geoff. I liked his articles. Thatâs a terrible tragedy.
On RTE news now, self appointed chief mourner, indulged as ever by RTE. Tears flowing now
I would have thought he was a lot older.
