Brilliant as the grandad in Moone Boy, which my kids love
Funny story told of how he overheard two old dears after a stage show saying that Benji was making a good go at the acting

Alan McLoughlin
RIP. Gave us one of the best nights ever in 1993.
RIP
What a goal. RIP.
Can still remember watching that game as a young fella in primary school. What was the other game on that night in the group? Might have been Denmark we were battling with for qualification?
If we conceded again or if they scored in the other game we were out, was the scenario I think. Unbearable tension.
Jesus, I’d love to have been drinking/working age for the Charlton glory years. It must have been incredible.
Ah that’s sad news. He had a tough time of it. His name will never be forgotten in Irish football circles. Not quite immortality, but as close as one can get I suppose.
Rest well.
A group of us were in a loft bedsit in Graiguecullen watching that game. We had two sets of bunkbeds as our stands and then there were more of us sitting on the ground or on chairs. Felt like around 20 of us there that night. We were ballubas before kickoff on Fosters and Vax. I don’t know how we got away with it back then. Ended up in the Seven Oaks and had a great night.
RIP

His goal stands up there with the best moments we’ve had from my sporting memories.
