I’m afraid to check how many series/episodes there were of the Monkees as I recently did with Catweazle

Catweazle had only 2 seasons / 26 episodes but somehow I watched it for years on RTE*

Turns out Catweazle was made in 1970/71 and RTE were still running it in the 80’s

You wonder what they did with the licence fee.

RTÉ was importing American TV from the early days. This was for economic reasons.

The BBC had a budget or £2500 for an hour of programming. Telifis Eireann has a budget of less than a tenth of that. So each hour was around £220. If they wanted to buy an hour or American TV, it cost them £20. Their own drama productions couldn’t compete with BBC but what they were getting from America could. However, in the earlier decades, we were very behind. They were showing Dragnet in the 60s, which had finished in the US in the 50s.

Lost in Space was another good one.

Mike Nesmith’s passing during the week got me thinking of this old gem that he wrote, made famous by Linda Ronstadt……

They are remaking that again now. There’s a few seasons on Netflix. I watched the first season but left it off after that

Jethro

RIP Drakeo the Ruler.
Very disappointing.

Carlos Marin one of the Il Divo lads

Had he been vaccinated?

Indeed he was

According to his manager he was ‘vaccinated in Mexico’ I think that might be a euphemism

A nice man. He came to read poetry in De La Salle. We came down from Mount Sion and so did the girls from the Presentation. Ryanners sister took an epileptic fit and Thomas dealt with it very sensitively.
