Yes, the appeal was unfortunate.
But as the Royal Commission into institutional responses to child sexual abuse found, he was aware priests in his diocese were abusing children and he actively worked to protect, enable and defend those priests. And then lied to the royal commission. He was a bastard, an absolute bastard.

Jeff was a big Spurs fan. He appeared on Top of the Tops a few days before the first all London FA Cup Final in 1967, Spurs v Chelsea. Signed off with a roar of ‘Up the Spurs’.
