Celebrity Deaths 2024 (play either flank of a back 4)

Nell probably cost Tom Dunne his cushy mid-morning slot when she defamed Mary Harney on his show and ending up costing Newstalk a few hundred grand.

Nell was a great Irish person and I’m very sorry for her passing. Like @marvyn I read those columns and pretty much everything I came across that she wrote. She was a very good writer.

I like Simon Harris’s tribute, it ends, “Nell McCafferty left Ireland a much better place than she found it and she played her part with spirit and style. May she rest in peace “.

She was on the right side of history. Probably caught her towards the end but a great talent, could talk her ass off with a great line in righteous indignation. There’s a huge void in broadcasting now between the I suppose ‘golden age’ of people who came up telling stories and now, incidentally. People can’t talk and tell stories like that today.

I’d have loved to see her on the Aisling Murphy case, or even Natasha O’Brien. She would’ve set the agenda, she’d be worth a fortune as well. It was sad she ended up in a nursing home, nobody’s fault but they take your legs, 80 isn’t a million years today.

One of the worst leg breaks ever.

Was sorry to read that, no age. Saw an interview with him on Youtube a few years ago and he said he had bought a big farm and was loving life working it. Hard worker though, would get up at 3 in the morning to start work at half past, sure one could tell by the way he kept himself, a fucking machine. There is a funny story about them wanting to give him the belt one summer but he pretended to be injured so he could play in a series of softball tournaments at home!

Ah no. Made the power bomb popular. Not the best worker and used to cut weird promos but, by christ, he was some animal when it came to strength. Heavyweight champ in both WCW and WWF and main-evented Wrestlemania against the Undertaker.

Must be the fucking vaccines (cc @glenshane).

I saw him live in Fabric in Tralee one night. He was indeed a fat man. Topless above on the stage and the sweat rolling off him. I reckon around 2007. His 15 mins were well spent at that stage. He spent about 15 mins on stage as well.

No one was even there to see him. A sad auld existence

I never heard of this fella until it was pointed out to me that he sang a song with this line:

‘You got a $50 dollar bill put your hands up’

A staple around Coppers in the mid to late noughties.

“Single ladies, can’t hear y’all, single ladies make noise.”
