Having a young buck means that I usually catch Cheers early in the morning on Channel 4.

An utterly brilliant comedy that lay the groundwork for ones coming after.

Of course I only get to see ten minutes until the demand for Ms Rachel comes along.

A few years ago I series linked those Channel 4 showings and watched them over long sleepless nights with the kids. Absolutely incredible television, a high point. The quality rarely wavered.

Been watching the early seasons myself recently, great stuff. Shelly Long and Danson were great together. The amount of times she nearly cracked every episode was fantastic.

To pivot the entire thing post Shelly and the departure of Nicholas “Coach” Colasanto was an incredible achievement. Woody, Frasier, Paul, et al, were genius additions. What made Cheers, as much as the main cast, was the supporting characters. For example

Harry the Hat
Nick Tortelli
Antony Tortelli
Fuck it, all the Tortellis
Cliffs mom Esther
Eddie
Kelly
Robin
Hill
Henri (I hate that guy)
Gary
Don
Lilith

and of course Vera and so many others.

I always found Fraser to be a bit of a pain in the hole

On his own show or in Cheers?
