Celtic 2012/2013 season discussion thread

Reaonable pressure now. Maybury heads one away at the back post after a dinked cross from Lustig.

Chance but Kayal fires over. McCourt did well, freed Sammy and his cross was won well by Hooper who laid it off but Kayal blasted over.

Gary Hooper hasn’t been mentioned much all afternoon but to my knowledge looks like he is still on the pitch, meanwhile Barcelona-slayer and teenage prodigy Anthony Watt remains on the bench?

Wanyama with a very good effort with his left foot but a yard over.

Wanyama with a very good effort with his left foot but a yard wide.

Lustig with another great cross but headed behind.

McCourt doing well enough here. Watt warming up.

Another corner to Celtic. One way traffic.

Agggh. Corner across the face of the goal. Sammy tried to chest it in and then Ambrose tried to knee it in but he put it over.

Free out given actually as it brushed Sammy’s arm.

Ambrose, Wanyama and Lustig combined to put Hooper in with a shooting chance and he dug out a great effort but clawed behind for a corner.

Another teasing cross from Paddy, another corner that Izzy will swing in left footed.

Corner cleared to Maybury on the break and McCourt quicker than expected to get back and win it back.

McGeouch on for Ambrose.

Kayal shoots straight at the keeper from the edge of the box.

This isn’t going to happen for us today.

Ends 1-0.

Didn’t really carve out any decent chances from open play. Few decent crosses but lacked a bit of guile in midfield (again) and we missed someone who can even mix a bit of passing with strength such as Mulgrew or Ledley. Badly lacked width as well with Lustig doing well on the right but Brown was dragged infield too much and on the other flank Izzy was poor enough and Sammy had a poor day.

Unfortunate enough to lose but they had the best chance other than the goal and we didn’t dominate enough. Think it was probably lost in midfield with us resorting to winning duels in there, which we probably did, but we didn’t impose our superior skill levels.

Goal was disappointing too. Having seen it a few times I think Forster is more to blame alright but Rogne was less than convincing - he was just pointing at the ball as he ran back which was asking Forster to come - and Rogne was hesitant throughout really.

All in all too many poor performances and none of our big players - Sammy, Hooper, Brown, Wanyama, Forster - played well.

Best player for us was probably Lustig but he was far from spectacular, more just persistent.

Sad to see Watt sitting on the bench behind an ineffectual Gary Hooper.

Nice to see an Irish team doing well.
G’wan the Hibees… :ireland:

Neil took the blame for getting the tactics/formation wrong yesterday. It was three at the back before reverting to a four when the initial set up wasn’t working. Looking at the goal again, Rogne was very poor and turned extremely slowly and they exploited space down the side of him.

Our revised formation saw us having a combative central midfield duo of Brown and Wanyama with Lustig and Samaras on either flank. Not really any guile or creativity there and the selection didn’t help.

We were overloaded with defenders and would have been better off with Rogne on the bench, the Ambrose/Wilson partnership restored, Lustig at right back and Kayal, McCourt or McGeouch in midfield.

We’re linked with a Belgian based Israeli left back today. Neil said he wants cover for Izaguirre.
