Celtic Non-Matchday Discussion

They play decent football. He got to play at Hampden once anyway. Who knows who was interested? And at least he was man of the match so looks like he isn’t just an average player at that level.

Seems a strange one alright on balance though. Your man who plays on the left for Liverpool used to play for them. And they’re awful so it doesn’t bode well for Luca.

What’s the norm on this?when do the champions normally get a guard of honour

Rangers refused to give Celtic one two years ago

A former title winning manager in Scotland like Brendan Rodgers would presumably be in the know on such matters and the correct etiquette to be applied. It would appear that Glasgow Celtic are not showing much in the way of good sportsmanship, dignity, or grace here.

Can you look into it please

You’ll have to do your own research on this one. Don’t have the time.

ok, maybe refrain from commenting until you are up to speed

I agree with Brendan Rodgers.

Surely Brendan Rodgers should be focusing on a cup tie in the world’s most glamorous domestic cup rather than a dead rubber in a second rate league .

All time top goalscorer for the French u21s I believe.

Has Luca Connell any chance of breaking through next season? Wont be easy under a new manager.

He’s on loan in the bottom division of the Jock league. Not a promising start.

More chance of getting a run than under Lennon. I believe in Luca

What about Afolabi, O’Connor and Coffey. Assume all three are well down the pecking order

O’Connor could be in the frame next year. Kenny and Ralston the only right backs at the club and will probably both be gone next season.

Barry Coffey warming the bench at Cliftonville, so a long way from 1st team squads

John Kennedy has blasted Steven Gerrard and the SFA for the handling of the Ibrox Covid Five case.

The interim Celtic boss reckons Rangers boss Gerrard has a cheek looking for lockdown rule breaker Nathan Patterson to get off lightly because he’s a Scotland prospect.

And Kennedy has been left stunned the appeal against the six-game bans handed out will now be heard after next weekend’s Old Firm Scottish Cup showdown, more than two months after the players were caught by cops having a shindig during shutdown.

Paterson, Calvin Bassey and Bongani Zungu, who were in the dock with youngsters Dapo Mebude and Brian Kinnear, will now be available for the Ibrox clash on April 17.

They had already been allowed to face Celtic in the 1-1 Premiership draw at Parkhead last month.

Gerrard’s call for Hampden beaks to go easy on Patterson because he’s one of Scotland’s top prospects have hit a nerve with the Hoops as they were clobbered in the wake of Boli Bolingoli going AWOL earlier in the season.

Kennedy said: “Steven’s got his reasons to do that and say it but our players are talented.

“We paid money for them and have high hopes for them.

“Look at the Bolingoli situation. Yes, he broke the law and he was harshly punished for it and rightly so.

“We’re not defending that but it was a massive setback in terms of his career at Celtic.

“That’s the punishment for stepping out of one.

“You can’t do it. We were then running behind and we had to fit those matches in somewhere else while losing a player who had been important to us.

“It wasn’t a good situation and there was a lot of pressure on us because of it as we were then paying catch up.

“We can’t use that as an excuse because Bolingoli put us in that position and we had to deal with it and move on.

“But we need to make sure that there is consistency across the board.

“It was made very clear to our players that these are the situations that you can’t get involved in.

“One, because you’ll be punished for it, but it also brings extra pressure and scrutiny on the club. These players have been caught breaking the law themselves.

“Regardless of how talented or valuable the player may be, there comes a punishment when you step out of line. We’ve been dealt with harshly in the past and had to accept that.

“This is only my opinion and I’m not just saying this because it’s Rangers.

“Aberdeen were dealt with in the same manner as ourselves when their players were involved in their situation.

“Our players are talented. They’ve been punished. It’s the same difference.

“It should be very clear in terms of how you deal with situations like this.

“Regardless of the player – how talented, how valuable he is – there comes a punishment when you step out of line in these situations.

“We’ve been dealt with harshly in the past and had to accept it and we have to wait and see what comes Rangers’ way.”

Kennedy is also stunned that it’s eight weeks down the line from the Covid party, yet a final decision will take until April 20.

Celtic had games postponed and Bolingoli was banned just four days after he broke the rules by flying to Spain.

Kennedy has demanded consistency. He said: “It’s not our situation but, looking from the outside, I don’t understand why there’s such a delay.

“Players played against us who probably should have been banned.

“It’s something I think should have been dealt with a hell of a lot quicker to remain consistent with all the other decisions that have happened.

“The SFA probably need to address this themselves and give a bit more clarity to everyone in terms of the hold-up and why it has taken so long.

“I’m saying protocols because we tend to use that word but 100 per cent they were breaking the law. They were dealt with initially.

“Going back to the consistency, we were dealt with very quickly and we were punished harshly and we had to accept that and move on.

“The SFA are the only ones who can come out and clarify why this decision has taken so long and exactly what they
are thinking.”

Right-back Paterson was involved in last month’s Old Firm game and will be a key man again next week with James Tavernier still battling back from injury.

It’s another sore point for Celts and Kennedy said: “Again, that’s a by-product of that and I don’t know why this has taken so long.

“I don’t have the answer to that. You’d need to ask the SFA.

“I can’t tell them how to do their jobs but all we can ask for is that these issues are dealt with in the same manner during a pandemic which has been tough for everyone.”

I’m sure we all understand why there’s such a delay.
