And Posh director of football Fry told the Daily Mail:
"The lad is very close to signing for someone else in the next couple of days.
"Celtic would have been his preferred choice but they are nowhere near it.
"I heard from Ivan’s agent to say Celtic were coming back.
"That was Sunday evening after their first game but I haven’t heard anything."
Parkhead recruitment boss Nick Hammond has been leading transfer talks with Fry over the last couple of weeks.
Why would someone put the trips to Milwall, Barnsley and Preston over prospect of winning trophies, playing in Glasgow derbies and the big European nights? The only thing would be money.
If Celtic are willing to push the boat out for him that is where he will end up.
Also far easier to get into the Premier League which is the Holy Grail for most young English players. You see Odsonne Edouard, a great striker for Celtic and he’s still there for a 4th season it looks like despite a great record at both Celtic and in underage French teams with nobody willing to buy him so far
Edouard, is in his third season as a Celtic player.
He is quite content at Celtic for now, whoever is going to buy him will probably have to fork out about £50m. The only reason players head to the EPL is the financial aspect. Celtic always have and always will be a far bigger draw than sides like West Ham, Spurs and Leicester but they are unwilling/unable to compete financially with those sides.
I agree but @the_man_himself is trying to kid himself that lads who go to the likes of Leicester and West Ham and Spurs don’t do it for financial reasons.
He tied himself up in knots about 18 months ago trying to big up Gerrard and Morelos and has been digging ever since.
Why? Spuds are a tinpot club who haven’t won a trophy in a decade, who haven’t a title in over 50 years. Just because you build a £1bn white elephant doesn’t mean you’re a big club.
If Celtic could afford to spend £60m odd on one player and give a player £200k a week, they could easily build a better team than Spuds. Édouard is superior to anything in the Spurs squad. Jullien is a better centre half than anything Spurs have.
Spuds squad assembly cost and wage bill is 10/20x that what Celtic’s is. Spuds only attract players with their financial resources. If you want to know what people think of Spurs, listen to Chiellini’s comments after Juve knocked them out a couple of years back.
And a 16-year old Celtic winger called Barry Hepburn, according to Bild. Think they took another young jocko from the Celtic academy last year. I like Hickey as a player. He gave a great display as a 17 year old in the 2019 cup final.
You can just picture him coming out with a load of guff about him having a decent track record, being a reliable backup, low risk type, understanding the task at hand this season by virtue of being Scottish and so on.
