Celtic Summer Transfer Window 2020 & Associated Malahide Public Amenities Discussion

Apparently Ajeti having second thoughts about the move.

We are also said to be in for Ivan Toney who would prefer Celtic over Brentford, he could be available for £6m.

To me Toney looks a good level above Ajeti, he has pace, looks to be a very composed finisher and seems to far more about him technically.

If it came to it and the finances were similar I’d have Toney over Ajeti.

I’d prefer Glasgow over Brentford myself.

Apparently Barkas only cost an initial fee of £2.95m which seems very cheap. He certainly looks a very good keeper on the clips I’ve seen.

Linked with a Croatian left back for €3m who plays for Hadjuk Split. He’s 20.

Colina is his name, but I don’t know anything about him other than those bald facts you mention.

I’d put in a £25mn bid to Arsenal for Tierney.

Bayo to Toulouse.

The boy Colina seems to be a non runner by the latest reports.

tenor

Not enthused by that either.

Is the Ajeti deal dead?

Apparently Lennon has been trying to coax the agent of Ajeti.

I’m not sold on Ajeti if I’m honest.

He looks very, very average.

Toney looks like the best of the strikers we’ve been linked with. If we can do a deal around the £5-6m mark then it’s not a bad bit of business, I certainly think he has much more to his game than Ajeti.

Fletcher was average at his peak and he’s well past that now.

Brentford were meant to be bidding for Toney too. Probably no harm for Celtic’s chances of getting him if Brentford lose this play-off game and stay in the Championship.

I think Ajeti looks decent. I’m happy with either him or Toney. And then hoping/assuming Fletcher is a reaction to the bigger bench and 5 subs rule and will just be a Bayo replacement.

The Huns have found the magic money tree. Celtic will have to have significant strength in depth to win the league this season.

Apart from being a Swiss international there is nothing too impressive about Ateji. His goalscoring record is average, he doesn’t seem to have any standout qualities, looks too chunky for me as well.

It’s a fairly low risk signing as it’s a loan with an option to but bit he just seems really average.

Toney actually looks to have a lot of ability about him so if hope we try harder for him first of all.

Centre back should be the priority in any case.

Their goalscoring records are very similar.

Toney has 0.35 goals per game.
Ajeti has 0.39 goals per game.

Toney has more games, and played more as a youngster so if you just look at their averages from 20+ then they’re probably fairly similar.

The Swiss Super League isn’t that great but it’s a higher standard than League 1 - Toney hasn’t scored at a higher level.

I think there is much to like and some warning flags about both. They both look inventive finishers. Ajeti looks better in the air, Toney looks quicker. Both have played against suspect defences but look like natural goalscorers but youtube clips don’t tell you a lot.

I’d be encouraged by Strachan’s relationship with Toney which means he’s seen him in training and obviously feels he can make the step up. So he’s not as big a risk as someone like Bayo or Kilmala or Ajeti I guess (or Sporar would have been). Ajeti has the loan element as you mention so that reduces his risk and he’s young with upside.

Think we’ll get one of those and a centre back and a left back. But the window is open for ages so hoping we are trying to bring them in for European qualification and not just for October.

Toney looks like a guy who is much more than just a goalscorer whereas Ateji just looks to be a poacher with little other qualities.

Yeah that’s fair. But if we’re talking about one of them playing with Edouard then I think a poacher is more what we need. Though either could do a job. In the longer term then Toney certainly looks like he’d be more involved in general play.

I’d imagine the opposite. Brentford will get big money for Benrahma and Watkins now whereas if they were in the PL they would have kept one or both and would want someone more proven than Toney up front.

Not really true.

Celtic are a more appealing option than Brentford after last night.

If Brentford had got promotion then the EPL would have been a big draw for Toney. From what reports are going round it would seem that Celtic are the preferred destination for Toney it is just the fee that is the issue.

I would have thought a team among the favourites for next season’s championship are probably a bigger draw for a young English lad playing in League 1 than Celtic. We’ll see I suppose
