Brandon Mechele - a 22 year-old £3m rated centre back with Club Brugges. Rumoured to be a target in numerous media sources so likely something to it. Club Brugges are currently topping the table in Belgium (in their truly bizzare format) so remains to be seen whether they’d sell or want to sell if they have CL aspirations for next season.
Rafael van der Vaart - 32 year-old Dutch international - is linked in today’s Bild. For a reckless tabloid, Bild actually have a very decent record on football transfers. This story is more about Celtic being “hot on” the prospect of signing him so not very concrete. Not sure he’d be a Deila type player but he’d be quality if he could show some form. HSV are bottom of the table and he’s getting plenty of blame for not being suitable for a relegation fight but he’s been far from their worst performer. He’s out of contract in the summer.
Juanan Entrena - 18 year-old Spanish winger with Espanyol. Linked in today’s Daily Record and described as a “starlet.”

Mechele seems like the type of guy we should be going for, young player with a decent pedigree. Not sure how keen he would be on the move either, for as much as Celtic are a big club in tradition, in terms of the league we play in and financial resource we have it’s not the most appealing. The usual attraction in recent years have been the prospect of CL football, league medals and the big derby games. It seems as if he would get a lot of those where he plays now so it would be a sideways step for him.
Van Der Vaart is a decent player but I don’t want him, we already have Commons who has signed a new deal and can be be a bit of a square peg in the team so adding another would only add to the balance. I think we are fine in the the support players to the striker and if we are to add someone here then they need to be flexible.
Linked with Mitchell Dijks in a few papers today. He’s a left back with Willem II (ex-Ajax). Couple of quotes from the player himself confirming Celtic’s interest.
Jonathas of Elche was linked yesterday. He’s a Brazilian striker who has had a reasonable season but has a very ordinary career record in Holland and Italy before then. Had a couple of reasonable seasons with Brescia and Latina but doesn’t seem great.
Today Orjan Nyland is mentioned. He’s a 24 year old keeper with Molde and a Norwegian international. He seems highly rated so not sure he’d be keen on moving to be an understudy.
Mulgrew is linked with a move to Bournemouth. Small fee mentioned as he has only 1 year left on his contract. Ronnie talked about trimming the squad and I’m not Charlie’s biggest fan but wouldn’t mind keeping him for a couple of years as backup if he proves his fitness.

I’m sure Ronny will take this into account mate
Been very impressed by what I’ve see of ex Motherwell player Jamie Murphy tonight for Sheff Utd. I think he’s good enough to play for us. I am betting that he will be linked with us at some stage between now and the end of August.
Think he’d be decent enough, what do you reckon our chances of keeping Van Dijk are? There does seem to be an ambition to hold onto him until January at least as opposed to cashing in. Hopefully we can get deals in early, found it a bit bizarre Ronny mentioned a right back in those tweets you put up yesterday, we already have plenty of cover there.
It was subsequently clarified in other tweets that he said left back and your man misheard. Makes much more sense.
I think we’ll keep Virgil until we’re out of the Champions League and even then it will need a decent offer, especially if we’re in Europa League group stages.
Would be pleased with Boyata joining - he’s a decent calibre for us to be attracting. We seem to be forging a link with City through Lawwell. Guidetti and Denayer have both been particularly co-operative type deals and I even wonder if Bitton came recommended after his trial there where he seemed to be impressive.

Is the City link not through Ronny? He had a few guys on loan from City at his former club and spent time over there studying their techniques and set up when Mancini was in charge? I’d happy too with Boyata, hope we can keep Denayer as well. Not too bothered about Guidetti really, decent player but I don’t think we’ll miss him that much
I’m hearing Jason Denayer has been told he’ll be one of Manchester City’s 4 first team squad centre backs next season and won’t be available to return for another season on loan.
DEDRYCK BOYATA arrived in Glasgow tonight to clinch a four-year deal with Celtic.
The Belgian international will become Ronny Deila’s first signing of the transfer window.
Celtic are set to splash out a significant seven figure fee thought to be in the region of £1m for the player who has a year left of his contract at Manchester City.
The stopper has been capped once for Belgium, appearing as a substitute against Austria in 2010 but hasn’t featured for the national side since.
Boyata’s father Bienvenu confirmed last night the player would be leaving City but staying in Britain.
Speaking on a Belgian TV show his father said: “He signed for Manchester City in 2006 and if I could turn back the clock, I would not let him do it again.
“He should have stayed in Belgium and evolved at a club there before moving to a bigger club later.
“It is clear he won’t stay at Manchester City and he does not want to stay.
"They want to extend his contract, but he won’t play.
“A certain club has shown interest in Dedryck and has reached agreement with City and it will be made official next week.
What club? I can’t say, but let’s just say he will remain in Britain.”
