Celtic Transfers - 2013 Summer Transfer Window

He’d be a much better bet obviously but I’d say Doyle would do well with Celtic. He was a ‘great bit of stuff’ in his day especially for Ireland sad to see him fallen off the map as much as he has. A huge part of his game was his workrate and attitude and when that seemed to lessen he was fucked as he’s hardly that naturally gifted. Would never have seemed the most naturally confident fella either so probably hard for him to ride out a dip in form.

I’m inclined to agree with the tone and content of the post by my learned friend Bandage here. At 500k he’d hardly be a significant outlay and worth an interest. I think Wolves might struggle to find too many suitors as his poor form has extended for 3 years now and the last drop in divisions didn’t help him so the drop to League 1 might not even spark a resurgence in form. Anything over £1m isn’t really justifiable.

It would be good from an Irish point of view if he got back his confidence and that bit of arrogance he had when he was in form. As you say he looks completely devoid of confidence at the moment and when he isn’t bustling about causing problems, bullying defenders etc. he’s doing nothing.

Encouraging how he’s played in a league with bankrupt clubs in the past - that sort of experience of playing with and against companies in liquidation is invaluable for players moving to Scotland.

Also nice to see a mention for former friend of the forum, Theo Janssen.

According to todays Examiner Kevin Doyle is currently on €50k a week at Wolves:eek:

In that case I think the player has a duty to negotiate his way out of the club. He can play away there at that level or he can come to some arrangement that suits everyone where he takes reduced wages elsewhere and leaves Wolves with no further payments to him. Obviously he can be an arsehole and stay there or he can ask Wolves to give him money to leave but he needs to put his career ahead of short-term finances here.

He would probably have to come down to about €20k a week or so though for Celtic-hard to criticise a guy for not jumping at the chance of reducing his wages by 60%. He is probably still holding on to hope that a Championship or lower league EPL team will come in for him which is unlikely enough given his form for the last 2 years.

Celtic won’t pay him anything close to £20k a week and I’d be surprised if anyone did.

Really? Who is the highest paid player at Celtic and what does he earn? I would have thought the likes of Brown and Samaras would be on €20-25k anyway.

Then why would he leave Wolves? How long is remaining on his contract? He’s going on 30 now, so probably only has 2/3 years of anyway decent money remaining anyways.

He’d leave Wolves if he doesn’t want to play in the third flight of English football with no realistic prospect of international football etc. It’s hard to criticise him if he stays and earns that money but he’ll have chosen money over sporting ambition. The point I was making is that if he does want to leave, he needs to be proactive about it and open to taking a big drop in wages.

Doyle won’t get paid the same as established players at Celtic like Brown or Samaras. Ledley presumably gets decent wages as he joined on a free but Doyle could expect to get the same as Stokes (if he signs a new deal) or whatever Lassad got last year.

Hmmm. I’d be surprised if anybody at Celtic thinks that they would get Doyle to sign for them on €10k a week or whatever Stokes is on. His form has tanked the last 2 years or so but he is an established international who played very well in the EPL/upper ladder of the Championship for a few years. If the fee is €500k, then €20k per week would work out as an outlay of €2.5m over 2 years-that is worth a gamble for Celtic imo.

I’ve seen a lot of the violent, criminal and underclass types wearing Celtic jerseys of some fella called Sands with a squad number of 32. Can anyone feed me info on him? Is he starved of success and hungry to win a Mickey Mouse league? Would he be dirty and protest a lot? Would he fit into a blanket defence?

Whats your view on Mick Galwey providing a character reference to a murderer?

He never did such a thing, though “murder” is an elastic term when it comes to supporters of terrorism like yourself.Mickey Harte effectively gave a character reference to a murderer though, what’s you view of that?

Anyway, back to this Sands fella that the Celtic fans wear the jersey of. Is he a striker? Bet he’d murder a defence, blow them to smithereens if he got half a chance. Somehow I doubt he’s a left-footer and doesn’t like playing with them. No problems with controlling the weight, I’d guess.

Don’t be silly mate-they mean Bobby Sands, an IRA volunteer who died on hunger strike. I presume the 32 refers to the 32 counties of Ireland. Here’s some info for you.

So Galwey didn’t give Halvey a character reference? Are you a bit simple?

Mickey Harte is a fool - the Brian Carthy affair is evidence of that.

Signing back in as a Celtic fan.

He drove out of his head on drink and drugs, not for the first time either, It’s as good as murder. A playing buddy of his tied up and repeatedly raped a woman last Christmas. Another ex Munster and Shannon, who may or may not have given a murder a character reference was caught in a Garda prostitution sting in Limerick not so long ago. An Ulster chap was done for kiddie fiddling… I could go on but It’s as pointless as the utter shit you’re coming out with.

Why is it worth a gamble when you can get better younger players out there for a lot less.
