Tonev starts contrary to Deila’s media comments earlier in the week and Scepovic makes his debut too. Brown returns from injury and Guidetti is on the bench.
Rare bit of aggression from Johansen there. Bit more positivity and optimism about the team with Brown, Scepovic, Tonev and then the two lads on the bench.
Apart from the great back heel to put McGregor away, Commons has been much too slow in releasing the ball to Tonev and Scepovic. Pretty frustrating to watch him.
McGregor has been a breath of fresh air this season but he needs to work a bit on releasing the ball quicker - not unlike Commons. He is very good at injecting pace by running with the ball but sometimes on a break we need him to release a pass a bit earlier.
Marginally more impressed with Tonev than Scepovic at the moment. The fact he plays on the wrong side is affecting his crossing a little but he has been nice and direct. Scepovic hasn’t had much service. He’s had one or two decent involvements in setup and it’s encouraging to see how he is playing on the shoulder all the time but he’s had a couple of hesitant moments too.
Ambrose beaten at the back post. Van Dijk completely switched off. Virgil had been playing really well but that sort of negligence is becoming habitual.
That goal concession can be attributed to Celtic’s lack of pressing. It’s been shit all game and was meant to be something Deila demanded.[/QUOTE]
We are astonishingly bad at defending this season. Over the whole pitch. Lazy forwards, midfielders standing off completely and offering no protection and then a series of calamities at the back. Gordon needs to work on getting the ball out of the danger area too - frequently parrying it straight back at the striker.
Some of that solidity is gone. Chances at both ends. We should really be able to close games like this out comfortably but we just lose all our defensive shape when other teams start running at us.
