Celtic v Aberdeen

Tonev starts contrary to Deila’s media comments earlier in the week and Scepovic makes his debut too. Brown returns from injury and Guidetti is on the bench.

Gordon;
Ambrose, Denayer, Van Dijk, Izaguirre;
Brown, Johansen;
McGregor, Commons, Tonev;
Scepovic.

1-0 Celtic.

Denayer diverted in an Ambrose effort from a corner with his hip.

Scepovic had a bad fresh air attempt there. :eek:

Rare bit of aggression from Johansen there. Bit more positivity and optimism about the team with Brown, Scepovic, Tonev and then the two lads on the bench.

Apart from the great back heel to put McGregor away, Commons has been much too slow in releasing the ball to Tonev and Scepovic. Pretty frustrating to watch him.

Nice ball from Ambrose to McGregor to set that up and McGregor did well to pick Commons out.

2-0 Celtic.

Straight after half time.

Commons’ shot from a McGregor cutback was deflected past the keeper.

Hopefully we can open up and take a few more goals now.

Mixed stuff from the new bhoys so far.

McGregor has been a breath of fresh air this season but he needs to work a bit on releasing the ball quicker - not unlike Commons. He is very good at injecting pace by running with the ball but sometimes on a break we need him to release a pass a bit earlier.

Marginally more impressed with Tonev than Scepovic at the moment. The fact he plays on the wrong side is affecting his crossing a little but he has been nice and direct. Scepovic hasn’t had much service. He’s had one or two decent involvements in setup and it’s encouraging to see how he is playing on the shoulder all the time but he’s had a couple of hesitant moments too.

Ambrose beaten at the back post. Van Dijk completely switched off. Virgil had been playing really well but that sort of negligence is becoming habitual.

Kayal and Guidetti for Brown and Scepovic.

Goodwillie.

2-1.

That goal concession can be attributed to Celtic’s lack of pressing. It’s been shit all game and was meant to be something Deila demanded.

We are astonishingly bad at defending this season. Over the whole pitch. Lazy forwards, midfielders standing off completely and offering no protection and then a series of calamities at the back. Gordon needs to work on getting the ball out of the danger area too - frequently parrying it straight back at the striker.

Already a better shape for possession since Bitton came on and we went for more of a 4-3-3.

Commons has scored, clipped the bar but he’s been one greedy bastard today. 11 attempts, 3 on target, 1 goal.

Thought McGregor should have scored there a couple of minutes ago.

Close shave there for Celtic though.

Some of that solidity is gone. Chances at both ends. We should really be able to close games like this out comfortably but we just lose all our defensive shape when other teams start running at us.

Good take from Gordon above Rooney there but Goodwillie was in yards of space in our 6 yard box if the cross had been a bit lower.

Some run from Johansen there. Great energy at this stage.

Why didn’t he shoot ffs

Not the prettiest performance ever but needed a win.

Thought Kayal did well actually when he came on. Otherwise it was mostly mixed performances.

Hmmm. Another pretty crap performance.

Up to fourth!

:clap:
