Possible red card for them afterwards not given. High boot on Giakoumakis. Didn’t think it was a red but the ridiculous part of it was the referee didn’t think it was a free but his colleague took about 5 minutes to decide if it was a red card.

That was a half ruined by refereeing and VAR. Killed all the momentum of the game. An early third goal required in the second half to kill off any fluke draw.

Some ending to that game.

Completely dominant in the second half without scoring. Lots of half chances and decent chances but no sitters.

Then they got a chance from a quick free kick which gave them confidence and a goal from poor defending from a throw in. Thought Abada was poor for it.

And then we immediately peppered their goal. Smashing flick on by Ralston for Kyogo to score - smashing goal. And then Abada with a delightful finish. And a ridiculous VAR delay when surely it takes about a second to see Maeda didn’t touch the ball.

Knee jerk reactions

  • Thought Kyogo and O’Riley were really good when we needed that late goal. O’Riley was very good throughout. Kyogo (and even Maeda for his cameo) helped lift the pace when we needed it
  • Jota was very good too
  • Jenz looked vulnerable
  • Bernabei wasn’t a horror show but Taylor is far better at the moment
  • Abada switched off for a couple of their attacks and think he was as sleeping at their goal too. Jenz wasn’t great either even though Watt didn’t touch it.

Has his role changed much since mcgregor has been out ?

Yeah he’s playing as the defensive midfielder now. So seeing more of the ball but deeper and more covering responsibilities.
