Celtic v Ferencvaros ☘

No chance of Messi coming now, you’d imagine

To be fair Rodgers did have a shock early qualifier exit when he was in charge too. Lennon did a great job ousting Lazio home and away in Europe last season, plus reaching Champions League Round of 16 in 2013. Should be capable of better than this though.

The day @Rocko blanked me in Rome to spend the day with Paul The Tim seems a long time ago now

Lennon should never have been appointed

Lawell out

We got eliminated from the CL in the same week as PSG. They have a massive budget compared to Celtic’s so I think a little perspective is called for.

A true supporter.

Are they into the Europa now?

Celtic are not a CL team. They should give the Europa a good rattle tho.

Definitely worse.

AEK, Copenhagen and Cluj had something about them. This mob were stone useless.

Ah sure Sevilla will just win that

How would Celtic’s wage bill compare to Ferencvaros ??

Way higher I’d imagine. Celtic are a bit unlucky in that they’re competing with English clubs and thus have to pay way more for similar or worse players than a Czech or Hungarian side would for example.

Barkas came from Greece
Ajer - Norway
Jullien - France
Christie, Taylor and Brown - Scotland

Who would you replace Neil Lennon with as manager?

Spalletti.

No way Lawell would have that ambition though. Probably end up with Martin O’Neill

O’Neill would be lightyears ahead of Lennon, even despite the fact the game has moved on.

O’Neill is too big a personality for Lawwell though. Lawwell only wants a yes man.

With the exception of Barkas and Elhamed, if those players were paid the same amount as Hungarian players they wouldn’t be at Celtic. They’d be in the championship, Premier League or Ntcham or Jullien might be in France.

Huh?

The fact is Ferencvaros couldn’t afford those players because they run on a much smaller budget than Celtic.

Celtic generally don’t bother competing with EPL clubs or Championship clubs for players, they pick the odd loan up here and there but pretty much all of Celtic’s recent permanent signings have come from Scotland of the continent.

Barkas - Greece
Soro - Israel
Elhamed - Israel
Bolingoli - Austria
Klimala - Poland
Bayo - Slovakia
Shved - Ukraine
Jullien - France
Taylor - Scotland

Only Ajeti and Frimpong have came from England and Frimpong was a youth player picked up on the cheap.

They only really look to borrow players from England, they look to the continent to buy bargains but they haven’t worked out too well recently - mostly down to the manager being a dinosaur who doesn’t give these guys a shot.

That’s a bad loss lads. Slovenia’s league has a higher coefficient and Vinny Perth fell on his sword after a loss to one of them
