For once it’s our opponents who are sandwiched between two legs of a European tie.
Hatate and Welsh are both available again and Jenz is also ok after limping off last week. Think we’ll see Reo coming back in. Be interesting to see who starts at the back. Welsh had an untimely illness and will probably drop back to cover so think Jenz will start.
Unless there’s fitness concerns about Kyogo I wouldn’t start GG, much and all as I think he’s a super player. Fine day, good surface and crisp passing to open up space for Kyogo and Jota. Give GG 20 minutes to grab a goal or two. However I would use GG from the start when the forces of darkness arrive in a few weeks with the 9-1-0 formation they will need to use ( especially if the Sherman Klump tribute act from Colombia is suspended)
Ange seemed a bit irked at the display today. Passing wasn’t fluent at times and Celtic didn’t get Into a great rhythm. As is their right, Hearts set out to disrupt/foul tactically/time waste and generally frustrate but they never threatened to score. We should have scored a second goal well before the one at the death but we still played at a fairly high tempo and it didn’t surprise me that a couple of them threw in the towel before the end and took second yellows. That Cochrane chap was cramping/limping before his foul.
I still think we could/would be hurt by a seasoned CL team they way we leave ourselves open when we commit men forward. Not sure about the McGregor, O’Riley and Turnbull combination for that highest level either. It lacks a bit of pace and power. I reckon we need a specialist #6 type for Europe. A fast, physical animal type that eats the ground, makes loads of tackles and interceptions and distributes the ball safely and sharply.
Yeah thought the midfield was a bit predictable and one paced today. Hatate made a difference when he came on and got ahead of the ball more. Turnbull did well enough for the first goal but he and O’Riley were sluggish in general.
Not sure Mooy is the answer either. He had a couple or decent tackles today, including for their second red card, but his passing seems slow to me and he doesn’t look to have bundles of energy either.
