Lots of options today. Kyogo and Kuhn are back available and will probably start I’m guessing.
I don’t think any of Valle, Trusty, Engels or McCowan will start but we will probably see a couple or them on the bench and wouldn’t be surprised to see the two midfielders on at some stage.
The huns have made no bones about playing this long ball stuff against Celtic under this manager & the previous one. I guess they think a scrappy game, full of aerial challenges, tackles & set pieces with lots of stoppages offers them the best chance of getting a result. Within that general template, they’ve tried a few different things, e.g., playing the physically powerful Sterling chap on the right wing in the last league game last season & pumping long diagonals over to him against Taylor & Scales. I think today they seem to have gone for a spoiling midfield three - Barron, Diomande & Sterling - & they’ll look to stop Celtic getting into a rhythm with a lot of physicality, man-marking, pulling & dragging. They’ve a fair few big lads & will look for set pieces. I imagine there will be lot of “sensible refereeing” where he keeps his cards in his pocket & let’s them away with a load of fouling. An early Celtic goal would be nice to draw them out. Their two centre backs are very slow. Not surprised Rodgers didn’t throw one of the new lads in from the start - the team has been playing well & the upcoming international break is a natural pause & they can be introduced then. 2 or 3 of them will probably come on.
They were aggressive at the start & pushed right up on Celtic, pressed hard & had some early territory when Celtic struggled to get into their rhythm. But Celtic figured it out quickly enough - the disallowed goal was the initial example - & have been able to knock the ball around them & get driving towards the box behind their midfield & from the flanks. Aside from the goals, there have been several examples of Celtic tearing them open with quick combinations & there have been plenty of cut backs from the byline that were close to being tap ins. Celtic are on another level to them when it comes to quick interactions, movement & all that. Just need to be careful not to give them a route back into the game.
Midfield for Sevco haven’t a clue especially the central guys. How much time and space did Bernardo have there for his chance. What do they do now is the question: extra body in midfield and settle for two zip or go for it and risk being torn apart? If Celtic survive the first ten minutes of chaosball in the second half they will easily add another one or two. Disappointed in Hatate today.
