Celtic v Malmo and vice-versa

Izzy can’t dive in there.

Asshole linesman. 2 bad calls against Jamesie there.

Forrest going well.

Indeed. Even putting in good tackles.

Poor from Boyata again there, his early Celtic career has been blighted with mistakes under no real pressure.

Forrest sleeping there. Brilliant from Brown. Ball wasn’t going to favour Forrest but he still needs to put pressure on and he left Lustig alone in a 2-v-1 then.

Good save Gordon. Virgil unlucky that time but we’re reluctant to put our foot through it when it’s required.

Malmo are very weak physically. Celtic are bullying them

I like Kenny but I’m perfectly happy with Celtic knocking it about with a 2-0 lead. We’ve been able to prise them apart through patience football already and we can do it again.

Bitton oozes class.

What a pass from Bitton, inch perfect.

Kenny still making the same point. I don’t think it’s about just quickening the passes. We have Grittiths, the wingers, Johansen and often either full back or Brown buzzing about when we have it. We just need to wait for the rigth pass to present itself instead of forcing the tempo.

A few very lapse moments in the last 10 minutes, need to cut these out or we will concede.

Still being a little sloppy on second balls and on clearing the ball in-field. I think we look like breaking them down again but conceding is a concern.

Smashing effort there from Armstrong. He has that full back beaten inside all day.

Kenny calling Scott Brown Craig all night. He’s done this before. And it’s Craig Forrest too.

Boyata not convincing with that cut-out and Lustig made a mess of the clearance too.

A tremendous half of football.

It wasn’t all plain sailing, but I think that would be an unrealistic expectation. We haven’t given up any good chances. We’ve had 2 goals and the next 2 or 3 best chances have fallen our way: Johansen’s shot on his right, the first corner, that prod for Forrest and a couple of dangerous looking runs and crosses.

I think we’ve generally got the balance right between playing it safe and trying to create. Boyata stepping up with the ball at his feet was an integral part of our good start - Virgil has done the same when he’s had the chance but they’re noticeably trying to stop him coming forward and allowing Boyata to have the ball a bit more. Boyata has gone on to make a couple of errors and he launched a couple fairly aimlessly near the end but there can’t always be a clever pass inside on.

I’d be a bit more concerned about some of our slow reactions to second balls and to overlaps. Forrest has left Lustig exposed once or twice (though has pressed well further up the pitch). Izzy made a couple of good diving block tackles but got caught out once and Armstrong isn’t protecting him much either. Both Brown and Bitton have done good defensive work but they do have a threat just off the striker and have tried to exploit that a few times.

Attacking-wise it’s been superb. Armstrong and Forrest have their men beaten all day and hopefully can keep that up. Griffiths has shown excellent movement and looks a real threat in front of goal but he’s also shown down the channels really well. And Johasnen has strung it together well up there. Happy to see the full backs going forward and Brown in particular has shown good movement in getting forward.

I think it’s simplistic to call our defensive troubles complacency - it’s partly down to our high-energy press, partly down to limitations and partly down to awareness. But we do need to tighten a bit at the back which should be easier to swallow with a 2 goal lead. I haven’t seen anything from them at all defensively to suggest they’ll be capable of keeping us out anyway. We are causing them problems no matter how we attack and hopefully that will continue to be the case.

Johansen’s assist was really terrific.

FFS.

Berget.

Fuck that.

Lots of little breaks went their way in that build up but Brown had an opportunity to clear and didn’t take it.
