We won 2-0 on xG last night. 16 shots to 3. 3 big chances to 0 big chances (thanks Barkas).
I think we’ll regret that. They’ll surely get more of a foothold in the return game at home and I can’t see our makeshift defence holding up, even if we continue to look dangerous ourselves. They’ll probably work a fair few openings and I doubt we’ll be compact, experienced and resilient enough not to concede a couple of times.
Barkas and Bitton the usual class clowns, similar to Griffiths off the pitch stuff. They can only be given so many chances, until we get these chancers away they will continue to let us down and hamper any of Ange’s work elsewhere
Other than that we had a decent performance and should have won. Tough ask ahead but certainly not irreversible
So how do you bhoys feel about a back five of Barkas, Ralston, Welsh, Murray, Taylor on Wednesday night after today?!
The board’s ineptitude and neglect is actually staggering.
How did Murray do today? He looked a prospect the other night, but that back four obviously should be nowhere near what Celtic are putting out in CL qualifiers. Are Hjelde and the new Owl the only other real options to change it?
Don’t think we have anyone else we can play at tj moment. There are rumours that Hjelde is going to Leeds and that’s why Murray was picked ahead of him. Hjelde came on today but I was sauteeing some potatoes during the second half and didn’t see how he played.
Barkas made a couple of early saves but he’s low on confidence and the crowd were nervous with him. His positioning for their second goal was so bad.
Midfield to front last week we were much more the impressive team. Obviously home advantage is going to be huge. I’d expect Murray for Bitton to be the only change.
Prediction Midtjylland 3 Celtic 1. I just can’t see our defence standing up to it tonight sadly.
Yeah, I think that will be the only change too. So the same team that started on Saturday and conceded six. I made the same point in the aftermath of the first leg last week - we should have won by a couple of goals and I think it’ll cost us tonight. Midget Land aren’t an attractive side to watch and kinda use the moneyball approach on the pitch as well as off it. Plenty of long balls into areas where chances are more statistically likely to emanate from, balls down channels to get the opposition turned, hurling long throws into the box, trying to force corners. A general approach of…why pass it around and retain possession when one or two passes can get it into the box? They’ll be dangerous from those set pieces and, even if they’re not that bothered with controlling the game, you’d think at home they’ll have a greater share of possession and hence more opportunities to test our makeshift defence in general play too. We’ll probably need something special from Edouard tonight to give us a chance.
Wonder if we’ll see much of Forrest. Thought he’d get a longer run at the weekend and might be pushing for a start but probably hasn’t trained enough yet.
I assumed Barkas was a certainty for start but if the Hart rumours are true then maybe we’re just giving up on him completely. Still highly unlikely he’d be dropped.
Christie and Abada have done well tbf. Be interesting to see how Christie would do in a more central role under Ange when we get some of our natural wide players back fit and sharp.
