Celtic v Motherwell

One change from Saturday, Stokes returns for Henderson who is not in the squad.

Presumably this is due to the injury Henderson picked up at the weekend, nonetheless it’s good to have Stokes back with the huns coming up. Griffiths been chosen ahead of Guidetti and Scepovic is interesting again but he gives us a a different option and the other two lads have been off form at present so no problems there.

Pity about Henderson - he deserved the chance to have a run of games and the chance to establish himself.

Lustig is on the bench after a lengthy absence too.

How many games has Tonev left to serve?

Wait now - Henderson and Mulgrew (as an overage player, returning from injury) are starting against Villarreal in that Premier League International Cup for U21s. A bit bizarre to take Henderson out of first team duty for that.

A really bizzare state of affairs. Can’t understand any logic behind that. We don’t have any midfielder on the bench even.

Mulgrew, I can understand as he hasn’t played much lately and it might be an easier way to ease him back into action but Henderson’s involvement is very odd.

Fairly decent start. Stokes and Izzy clicking again very quickly. Denayer and Virgil have played a couple of nice passes from the back in the last few minutes.

Griffiths not involved enough again. Commons trying too hard again. Or not trying enough. Or something that’s affecting his touch anyway.

Good ball from Stokesy. Keeper obviously isn’t going to be coming for much so we’re packing that 6 yard box. Nice touch from Stokes on the looping ball back to him too.

This time a cracking left footed cross from Stokes and Griffiths applied the headed finish. 2-0.

Great ball from Stokes again. Griffiths in the penalty area for once and able to capitalise. He played one lovely ball for Stokes a while ago but Griffiths hasn’t really been terribly convincing. I’d still like to see Scepovic or Guidetti against this defence.

Bitton has been excellent.

Agreed. He isn’t under much pressure when he’s deeper but he plays lovely sharp 10 yard passes around the area into feet that are very useful against packed defences.

Yeah, he doesn’t dwell on the ball and his passes are positive with a nice zip on them. His positioning has also been very good tonight. He’s closed off passing angles and made a lot of interceptions.

Lustig for Matthews.
