Nice one bro
Joooootttttaaaaaaaaa
That was brilliant by maeda
Ah lads. Rangers are a fucking pub team. That was horrendous from them.
Right from the free kick they were a shambles
Kent is a dud
Fucken hell
Huns applying the pressure here. Celtic treble sub yet to regain control of the game. Hopefully they’ll run out of steam soon.
Fashion has potential but is so wasteful for them
Cantwell is the hun i hate most
That was terrific. Some thoughts:
- I’d like to see us having a way of getting control of games when we are struggling. I think there was an element of fortune about some of their pressure when ricochets fell to them but we can be slow to figure out how to take the sting out of their attacks
- (Am I right in saying they were offside for the one CCV cleared off the line?)
- Other than the big Sakala miss, and the aforementioned and parenthesised opportunity, they didn’t create much. And a bit like the last game, the longer it went on the less they looked like scoring.
- On to the positives… we are an excellent defensive team under Ange. Starfelt and CCV still unbeaten domestically. They were both terrific today. They read the game very well and both brave in their challenges.
- Hatate was clearly not quite fit but he did well enough when he had time or space. McGregor was excellent (despite a couple of uncharacteristic sloppy moments). O’Riley was very good too and did really well for the goal.
- Mooy was outstanding when he came on. Other subs did well but he made a big difference and we played the last 15 minutes in their half really because of some of his clever play.
- No way they’ll keep Tillman I don’t think. He was anonymous before getting injured and no help defensively.
- Wonder if that’s the end for Morelos and Kent. They were both brutal.
- Kyogo is a great man.
- Maeda was superb for their goal. Very amusing that they still switch off for quick set pieces and then doubly amusing that they switched off again for the potential foul. Raskin and Barisic were rubbish but it was great to see the captain equally culpable at the back post where he completely stopped too.
- This time last year the Huns beat us in a cup semi final and got to a Europa League final. I’m not seeing the progress under Beale. Wonder if they could ask Gil back.
Yes, three of them were offside for the one CCV cleared off the line. It was a great clearance nonetheless, as the flag wasn’t raised. He had two more excellent clearances in the second half and, as you say, CCV and Starfelt were both absolutely outstanding. I also thought Hart was very good without having to make spectacular saves or anything. Decisive in sweeping up behind the defence & in claiming crosses & corners, & a couple of decent saves. Johnston was having another strong game before his injury.
It was a bit mixed ahead of the keeper & back four. Everybody had good moments, no more so than Maeda & Jota for the goal, but nobody was consistently at their top level. The huns didn’t allow us to establish a rhythm after half time & they pinned us back for a spell. I mentioned in-game that our treble sub after 60-65 didn’t have an immediate impact in wrestling back control, but you’re right about Mooy. It took another 10 minutes or so after the subs came on but he gradually stamped his experience & quality on the game. Just doing the right things under pressure all the time to keep the ball & initiate attacks. He helped us get our passing going again & we saw it out quite comfortably alright. I don’t think they had a clear chance after Sakala’s slashed rebound effort.
Although they have several weaknesses, we’re rarely going to completely steamroller them in a semi-final at a neutral ground & it’s natural to have spells defending. That said, agreed we should be better at dealing with their seemingly sole way of creating pressure. It’s basically Tavernier going high & wide on the right, being left with no defensive responsibilities, a central midfielder half dropping across to cover him, & then hitting long diagonals out to him & the wide attacker, & slinging in crosses from there or playing for freekicks. It took Mooy to re establish our composure & get us passing out around them.
But it’d be churlish to quibble too much. 4 wins & a draw against them this season & the treble in grasp. Wonderful to see Ange giving it big licks at full time. @Rocko can we get a Big Ange emoji please?
My goodness that analysis is spot on.
Funny how much better Hart was than McGregor at just being in charge of long balls over the top. Obviously our press was better but McGregor looked nervous and uncertain from the first minute. Hart was much more composed and assured as you say.
CCV is off to get surgery now so we won’t see him again this season. Great finish for him though and Starfelt was almost as strong beside him.
It’s those little triangles and interchanges that we killed them with last season that we didn’t really have any success with today until Mooy came on. He has a great way of playing the second most obvious pass every time that was giving them no end of problems. In fairness to O’Riley he was at the heart of some nice moves but our passing wasn’t quite at the top standard today.
What were they hoping for with those tactics at the end? When Morelos was on they at least had a chance of him getting on the end of one of those crosses. But their Plan C seemed to be just cross it in anyway and have a load of midfielders at the edge of the box for any knockdowns.
Ange emoji approved. Do you want to do it yourself or will I take this one? I’ll leave a GIF here for now.
Excellent news on the Ange emoji. I’d prefer if YOU used the one from today at the end. Please see the message I’ve just sent to the Ange Ange Ange whatsapp group for footage. I knew CCV was playing through injury & needed a tidy up operation but I didn’t realise it was earmarked for after this game. We must think it’s not totally straightforward so & want to give him plenty of recover time to be ready for pre-season.
How much of a bitch has AJ made out of the goth since he joined?
When did you get back lad?
Shhhhhhhh…
Don’t tell anyone.
Welcome back.
