Celtic v St Johnstone ☘

Agreed. Job done, no mean feat to dethrone the double cup champions. They’re some grinders in fairness to them. Reasons to be cautiously optimistic about Celtic’s development, but a few nagging doubts too. Didn’t have volume up too high in last quarter, could that be a fractured cheekbone for Welsh? It was a very dirty challenge by Rooney.

Yeah doesn’t look good for Welsh. That was a bad one from Rooney. Consensus was it was a borderline red. It may not have been completely deliberate but it was certainly reckless.

Nick Walsh is an absolute clown of a referee anyway. Just brutal.

I think it was completely intentional and should have been a red. He went down holding his head from a CCV (excellent again btw) aerial challenge a few minutes beforehand. He was making elbow motions and shouting at the ref and holding his face, even though it was nothing of the sort. Then we scored. Then they kicked off and pumped the long, high diagonal over to him and he did that. Probably raging but thought it was filthy.

Certainly a red. Consensus was referring to the commentators. I don’t think it matters when you go swinging like that. Not every two footed shin high challenge might be intentional either but they’re all straight reds.

They’re a dogged team but they were an argumentative bunch today. That Brown chap was fuming because Jota was roasting him and Bryson was his usual thuggish self.

CCV has really impressed. Wasn’t expecting much from him but very solid and his comfort on the ball makes him a good fit into Angeball.

Hart was dodgy as fuck today. Juranovic has been a bit meh for me so far, I understand he’s playing out of position and doing an adequate job there but I don’t see why there are so many people angling for him to take over from Ralston at RB. For me Ralston is undroppable on current form.

Bitton is ok at his job but looks like a red card waiting to happen, Turnbull is too slow and ponderous for me. We got the win today but we had to labour to break them down and it’s something we will have to improve immeasurably on to win the league this season.

Incidentally on the Hart thing, I saw an article on The Athletic this week about the young keeper we got off Spurs, the jist of it is that he’s highly rated by the coaching staff and is deemed as very suited to playing out from the back. Obviously he’s not going to dislodge Hart but it will be interesting to see if he’s moved up ahead of Bain.

I thought Juranovic was really good. He doesn’t allow crosses get in from his side and his covering is excellent. But Ralston continues to play very well on the other side. I’m one of the few who thinks Taylor isn’t that bad. He’s definitely a level below because of his lack of pace on the ball but he doesn’t hide and gets into some good positions.

Agreed on CCV. Keeps improving and he looks a very good player now. With Ralston and CCV on that side of the defence we’re really physically strong there as well as everything else.

Hart was sloppy twice though Bitton did him no favours with the last back pass. Yeah that young keeper seems to have passed Hazard and Barkas in the pecking order so he seems to be doubt well.

Am I the only one surprised Bitton doesn’t go up for set plays. He may not be the most aerially dominant but it seems odd to have a 6ft4 lad staying back when we have a corner.

I think our defence is looking good right now. Don’t rate Taylor I’m afraid. Very poor on the ball and can’t beat a man.

He’s not exactly quick if they break against him too. There was a time he was decent at the near post on corners - he’d at least give them someone to mark.

Ah yeah nobody rates him. I don’t think he’s brilliant but he seems to be trusted by successive managers and I think he’s borderline competent.
