Engels back on the bench.
Ralston😲
Three right backs who would start ahead of him all injured. We could really do with Johnston being back for the next league game.
I see MON confirmed we’d seen the last of Araujo this season in his press conference yesterday & we got the farewell insta post from the player last night. I wonder if he was tempted to even play Tierney or Saracchi at right full, although you’d have a back four of entirely left footers then. He also seems to be giving McGregor, Ox, Nygren every chance of establishing a midfield combination too, but nice to see Engels back involved. Cvancara retained despite the missed chances last week & Iheanacho’s winner. I think the latter is still deemed not fit enough to deliver more than 30/40 minutes for now.
Ooooooxaiiddeee. Chhaammvberrrllaaiinnnn
Feed the Ox
Shocking miss from Cvancara
Another game where we should be further in front. Nygren and Cvancara should both have scored.
We haven’t really kept the pressure up throughout the half after a bright start. It’s not just all about mentality though. Maeda looks dangerous in behind but his touch remains so erratic. Think Yang has done well but we’re not getting Oxlaide Chamberlain on the ball enough.
Looks like Iheanacho coming on for Cvancara.
Seems not actually.
On now along with Engels
Is every game going to be like St Johnstone until Harold Brattbakk scored…
Hearts score with 3 mins left 2.1
Before @thedancingbaby time but shame that Araujo’s race is ran this season. We badly miss him
Very good at it
A pretty shite display again. Very little cohesion in how they build the play or press when the opposition have it. Loads of easy possession for St Mirren in the second half. A real lack of legs & drive in midfield too with the three that started. McGregor looks close to finished. Nygren may as well not play…unless he scores. I think Tierney is having a defensive Nygren this season…stats look okay but his general play is fairly brutal. Anyway, a win is a win & stuff.
On a positive note, Engels was good when he came on. Looked a lot better than any of the other midfielders for his spell.
I assume Tierney was kept on for heading ability against a big team because his passing was very poor today. Actually Scales deserves some criticism for that too.
Cvancara is pretty hopeless in front of goal but we’re sort of compelled to start him.
It’s a distinctly average team but I don’t think there’s necessarily a better team in the league. And if Johnston returns with Engels and maybe an Osmand wild card we could get stronger for the run in.
Tierney annoyed me all through for abdicating responsibility. He kept checking back & giving at best safe but imnvho lots of unsympathetic passes to Scales. Here I’ll play it behind you at an unfavourable angle so you’re running diagonally backwards & can’t do anything except punt it away. Think his lack of composure on the ball & inability to play out has been very apparent all season. But then he’ll randomly drive forward onto a ball & make a goal so it’s all quite odd. Thought Engels was a positive alright.
I’m hopeful too that the cup semi-final next week will essentially give Johnston, Engels & maybe Osmand some good training time to be ready for league games in 2 weeks & beyond.
He’s has been brutal for months now
Engels was good, perhaps he’s playing for a big move but hopefully he keeps it up and gets better over the next seven games.
Iheanacho seems to have caught the Celtic bug. Would love the adulation and just needs to score some goals to get it.
