I also think Lyon’s time at the top is coming to an end.
possibly…i wouldn’t know too much about his character or personality but i have been impressed with his footballing ability and is more than capable at playing at a higher level…
agreed they are a few years past their best but i would still think they would have enough in them to win another french title…but they are by no means as good as the team they were under le guen or in houliier’s first year in charge…
Looking at things from a Celtic perspective (for a change!), it’s a shame Liverpool didn’t get beaten on pens. Liege would have gone into Pot 4, with the knock-on effect of Shakhtar moving into our pot, Marseille up to Pot 2 and Bayern Munich into Pot 1. Just have an awful feeling that we’re going to get Shakhtar again in a similar Group of Death to the Milan, Barcelona, Celtic and Shakhtar group of 2004.
If I had to pick one team to avoid in the whole competition it would be Shakhtar. Any group with them in it becomes very tough for all four teams, but it seems worse for Celtic for some reason. I mean Benfica went and won there in the winter last season with Shakhtar having loads to play for but Celtic always seem utterly incapable of holding it scoreless for even ten minutes out there.
Time for TFK’s traditional draw prediction. I’ll go for:
Chelsea
Juventus
Celtic
Aalborg
Edit: Had Marseille in Pot 2 by accident initially.
I’ve used Excel to randomly generate the following:
Real Madrid
Roma
Celtic
Dynamo Kiev
Egg on your face if none of those three come out with Celtic.
Here Bandage have you booked any flights yet? I’m thinking of forking out for flights from Dublin to Edinburgh at 15:30 for the last two games so you can take a half day and attend the last home game anyway. Price is a tenner including taxes and charges, so with two days and two rounds of matches it costs 40 quid all in with taxes and charges for the flight.
Half three is late enough to be leaving for Edinburgh though, half four to Edinburgh wouldn’t have you in Glasgow before 6. Thinking about leaving it now that I’ve done the maths actually. Earlier option is half twelve to Prestwick - bit early for a half day. Thoughts and suggestions?
It’ll be the UEFA cup at best with those two groups.
What time is the draw on at?
5pm Jonathon.

15.30 does seem a bit late if there’s a delay or anything, especially if we’re heading to Edinburgh rather than direct to Glasgow. What was the flight we got for the midweek huns game last April again? I was able to leave work just before mid-day and only lost a half day to holidays.
Can’t find it Bandage - think it might have been half two to Edinburgh with Aer Lingus. That’s only available on the summer timetable. It’s around for the first match, not the November ones, haven’t checked in between.
Yep, it’s the 13.45 to Edinburgh and it’s not available for the latter 3 games but it’s only 22 for the first 3 games. That’s definitely worth considering for me if our 1st and 3rd games are at home. I’m glancing around Ryanair and Aer Lingus and inputting the different game dates at the moment to see if there’s anything worthwhile to book before the draw.
It’s getting close now:
I’m getting all stream of consciousness and replying to myself but it’s all right as I’ve already accepted I’m a nutjob.
Something else to consider, if Celtic draw Inter from Pot 1 then we would be precluded from getting Juve or Roma from Pot 2 or Fiorentina from Pot 4 as there can’t be more than 1-team for a particular country in each group.
Scott McDonald on Sky Sports for the draw.
Well deduced Bandage. No way of avoiding Shakhtar unfortunately.
Likewise a Spanish or Catalonian team from Pot 1 will keep Atletico away from us.
Atletico have a 2/3 chance of being in with an English team.
We have a slightly better than average chance of drawing Lyon. Bordeaux are in our pool and can’t play Lyon obviously so that gives us a 1 in 7 chance.
So the odds of us drawing any of the other teams are adjusted accordingly:
Lyon: 1/7 = 14.28%
Arsenal = 12.24%
Man Utd = 12.24%
Chelsea = 12.24%
Liverpool = 12.24%
Inter = 12.24%
Barca = 12.24%
Real = 12.24%
Total 99.96%, 0.04% is rounding.
Interesting. Continue with the mathematical work. Far better than Sky’s analysis anyway.
