it was the same with shells in 00s, rovers a few years back etc. This game is massive for Dundalk but In terms of the national game it isn’t that important. In fact they could dominate the domestic game at unhealthy level and cherry pick all the best players for many years if the cash windfall is as big as expected. We’ve an inept association that has let the club game sleep walk for decades. Until they wake up, put the proper structures in place and back all the clubs these games will continue to be false dawns.
always easy to blame the FAI, however when people who claim to be Irish football supporters are cheering for a foreign team against the domestic champions and refuse to attend games in this country unless it’s a pre season friendly there are other issues at play beyond the control of the FAI
that we should all get out an support dundalk in a few weeks
I’m as much affiliation to Dundalk as I do Liverpool. In fact most Irish-Liverpool supporters would have more affiliation to Liverpool than Dundalk.
Liverpool is in England
@Rocko
how did Romania and Greece end up haveing 2 teams each at the same stage last night as a matter of interest?
thanks
Guys, its perfectly natural to be against spock and scumdalk iregardless of who they play
Good point well made in fairness on reflection
It’d be great if everyone wore the jerseys of the team they usually support when attending this potential British Isles derby just to display the real togetherness of those in the game in Ireland. Dundalk tops, other LOI jerseys and then the Nottingham Forest replica kits for those like @Gary_Birtles_Lovechi who despise Irish people supporting clubs based outside the country.
lads can someone throw up the seeding / groups / predictions and or what not for the draw tomorrow
@Rocko, remind me again why they cant just fire all the balls into a hat FA cup style and keep the seeding until the group stages.
also can you walk us thru the “logic” behind the champions / non champions route and how Greece and Romania had 2 teams in the same round last night?, i presume it is something to do with giving league champions an easier route?
didnt work for Olympiakos and Astru Girgu tho who were both turfed out… mind you Steau the 2nd place team in Romania last year came thru over Sparta Prague
if you also have time could you let us know what the coefficient threshold is for having 2 teams in the CL … and how far are scotland say from Romania
thanks a lot
This may have been put up already. Fuckin hell…

data shows that at least when compared to european clubs the quality of the SPL and LOI sides looks about equal, now whether the LOI has risen or the SPL has dropped is a matter for rather boring debate
@Gary_Birtles_Lovechi must be chomping at the bit waiting for the group stages and seeing who his local team, Leicester City draw
dundalk would beat Hapoel Be’er Sheva in Ireland… playing them out there is another kettle of fish tho
No I don’t expect Celtic fans to go against their team, that would be silly. And of course I’d cheer for Forest if we were in a similar situation - but I’d also acknowledge the benefits for Irish football if Dundalk did beat us. But the ‘plastic paddy’ point stands. Celtic’s links to Ireland these days are no greater than the average British club. The main belt of their supporters are born and bred Scots who bizarrely think they are Irish.
I live in Limerick pal. My local team last qualified for the European Cup in 1980 mate. And the good times are soon to return to that great bastion of Irish football that is The Markets Field
Leicester City will be back in The Championship by the end of the decade so what they do or who they play in The European Cup is of little consequence
They were going out on away goals anyway before that clanger.
Let me explain this in the plainest English possible, so you may understand more readily.
As you well know, I support my local team Limerick FC (been to 17 games this season) and Forest. My problem is with the many Irish fans of the PL, Championship & SPL who support only their British team and ignore their local one. My ire is not directed solely towards Celtic on this matter. One thing that does vex me though is those who support Celtic because “they are Irish”. No. They’re Scottish. From Scotland.
Irish Celtic supporters are only into it for the pissup.
